In 2002, Valerie Laws acheived world-wide notoriety when she received a Northern Arts grant to spray paint words on to sheep, for a project which bridged art and science, creating random poetry and at the same time illustrating the workings of the universe.

The sheep, which belonged to Donald Slater of Whitehouse Farm Centre, Morpeth, Northumberland, were sprayed, using the paint with which farmers traditionally mark their flocks, with the words of a "haik-ewe":

CLOUDS GRAZE THE SKY;
BELOW, SHEEP DRIFT GENTLE
OVER FIELDS, SOFT MIRRORS,
WARM WHITE SNOW.

They were then left to graze, and the poems formed as they wandered into different patterns were noted down.

Valerie explained: "Quantum mechanics is a branch of physics which a lot of people find hard to understand, as it seems to go against common sense.
"Randomness and uncertainty is at the centre of how the universe is put together, and is quite difficult for us as humans who rely on order.

This is a large list of patterns I’ve collected from around the net, all kinds of styles and types included. If you love aprons, you’re gonna love this list!

These are organized as neatly as I could manage, however some patterns fit well in more than one section. I decided to list them in a single category only to avoid duplicating things, please keep that in mind if you’re looking for a particular style of pattern.

There are a bunch of vintage styles toward the bottom, also children’s patterns, a couple for men, some knit & crocheted items as well as cute little miniature apron ornaments that I tagged on the end for fun.

Everything is free and several sites include files you can download directly to your computer.

Montessori Classroom Management

Children are Inherently Good...

When I went back to my room after dismissal, my assistant was sitting at a desk, exhausted. “They were just plain naughty today”, she told me. I started to agree, but then, thought of what Dr. Montessori would say. I remembered that she used the term naughty to describe behavior that was immature rather than immoral or wrong. In a lecture in 1946, she had this to say about misbehavior in children:

Children are not naughty by nature.
It is wrong treatment that makes them [children] naughty.
Mental starvation causes naughtiness.
Lack of activity causes naughtiness.

They [misbehaviors] are merely his reactions to an environment that has become inadequate...But we do not notice that.

So, tomorrow is another day. We will joyfully greet each student, assuring him/her that we are glad they are in our classroom.

We will reflect on the good that’s happening in our Montessori classroom and not dwell on the negative.
