1) Falling Sand

This is an absolutely incredible interactive toy. I won't spoil your fun by giving you details on how to play. Just experiment with everything and realize you can use the choices at the bottom to change your "drawing tool" and rate that things happen. I guarantee you will play with this for hours and hours.

2) Not Pr0n

Not Pr0n is essentially a puzzle game -- a very hard puzzle game. But it is also very addictive and a lot of fun. Each new page has a puzzle to be solved to get to the next one. There is a forum where you can find subtle hints to help you when you and stuck -- and you will get stuck. The site is very enjoyable and you can waste an enormous amount of time there.

6) Subservient Chicken

I refuse to admit how much time I wasted playing with this little gem. Your wish is the Subservient Chicken's command. Doesn't this guy ever get tired?

7) Stuff on My Cat

This one is not interactive, but there are so many pictures and many of them will make you laugh so much, that it can take hours to get through the site. The pictures range from cute to bizarre and even if you are not a cat lover it is worth checking out this site.

8) Spirograph

I had a Spirograph as a kid and loved spending hours making amazing geometric drawings with it. Now you can have all the fun without using up reams of paper and ounces of ink.

10) SymmetryLab Machine

This is a work in progress, but you can still have a lot of fun and waste a lot of time building animated machines form a simple set of parts.

• Thirty years ago, Gianna Jessen's mother had an abortion when seven-and-a-half months pregnant.

The abortion failed and, 18 hours later, Gianna (pictured) was born alive.

She suffered cerebral palsy as a result of the botched abortion, yet has defied doctors' predictions that she would never walk.

In fact she has run a marathon, is an accomplished singer and writer and travels the world to campaign against abortion.

Her mother was 17 when she decided to have the abortion. Weighing 2lbs when she was born, she spent several months in hospital fighting for her life, before being placed in a foster home.

Her cerebral palsy, which was caused by her brain being starved of oxygen during the abortion, was diagnosed at 17 months old. Doctors said she would never be able to crawl or even sit-up unaided, much less stand or walk.

She said: "If abortion is about women's rights, then what were my rights?

Did the release of Paris Hilton from a Los Angeles jail merit the media attention it received? That question reached a critical point for one US cable news presenter when she refused to read out the lead item on a popular morning breakfast show.

"I have an apology," presenter Mika Brzezinski told the host of MSNBC's Morning Joe programme, "and that is for the lead story. I hate this story. I don't think it should be the lead.

Taunted by her co-presenters, Brzezinski proceeded to tear up the script, attempting to set light to it before finally putting it through a shredder. "You have changed the world," mocked host Joe Scarborough."Yes I have," replied Brzezinski, "at least my world."

Throughout the exchanges Brzezinski appeared angry at the inclusion of the item as the lead in the morning's news

She took a cigarette lighter from a fellow presenter and tried, but failed, to set light to the sheaf of papers.

Brzezinski was shown with her head in her hands.

A cure for all your ills?

Last month, a reader wrote to our GP columnist Dr James Le Fanu to report the "miraculous" healing properties of Vaseline.

She had repeatedly applied a coat of the bathroom cabinet staple to two troublesome scars on her leg, which quickly disappeared, and then to a mole on her face that subsequently "dropped off".

The Cassini Probe sent us this mesmerizing and very rare picture of the planet Saturn backlit by the sun. Light diffuses through the rings and dust clouds that orbit the giant ringed planet showing us that it's ringed beauty is only a fraction of what the planet really has to offer.

While the beauty of this picture is a sight to behold in of itself, the true uniqueness of this image only shows itself on closer inspection. You see that pale blue dot visible through the rings? To paraphrase Carl Sagan: Everyone you've ever known, every belief you have, every nation at war, every point of view you've ever experienced, every hope, every dream, every good, and every evil resides on that small ordinary mote. Say hello to Earth seen from 930 million miles away.

the sun's harsh light could destroy Cassini's camera. However, in this instance when the sun was eclipsed by Saturn, NASA jumped on the opportunity to deliver this breathtaking shot.

Toronto scientists cure disease in mice

In a discovery that has stunned even those behind it, scientists at a Toronto hospital say they have proof the body's nervous system helps trigger diabetes, opening the door to a potential near-cure of the disease that affects millions of Canadians.

Diabetic mice became healthy virtually overnight after researchers injected a substance to counteract the effect of malfunctioning pain neurons in the pancreas.

"I couldn't believe it," said Dr. Michael Salter, a pain expert at the Hospital for Sick Children and one of the scientists. "Mice with diabetes suddenly didn't have diabetes any more."

"I've never seen anything like it," said Dr. Hans Michael Dosch, an immunologist at the hospital and a leader of the studies. "In my career, this is unique."

Dr. Dosch had concluded in a 1999 paper that there were surprising similarities between diabetes and multiple sclerosis, a central nervous system disease. His interest was also piqued by the presence around the insulin-producing islets of an "enormous" number of nerves, pain neurons primarily used to signal the brain that tissue has been damaged.

Suspecting a link between the nerves and diabetes, he and Dr. Salter used an old experimental trick -- injecting capsaicin, the active ingredient in hot chili peppers, to kill the pancreatic sensory nerves in mice that had an equivalent of Type 1 diabetes.
