The world’s largest monolith is Uluru, also known as Ayres Rock. It stands 348 metres high and is nearly 3 kilometres in length. Most of the rock is concealed underground, extending up to 6 kilometres below the earth.

Machu Picchu

Situated high in the Andes Mountains in Peru is the city of Machu Picchu. On top of a ridge looking over the Urabamba gorge, it really seems to hang over the edge. Machu Picchu means “manly peak” and was built in the 1400s as a royal and religious retreat.

On 22-24 October 2009, the International Year of Astronomy 2009 Cornerstone Project, Galilean Nights, will see amateur and professional astronomers, enthusiasts and the public taking to the streets all around the globe, pointing their telescopes to the wonders that Italian astronomer Galileo observed 400 years ago.

Spread over three nights, astronomers will share their knowledge and enthusiasm for space by encouraging as many people as possible to look through a telescope at our planetary neighbours. The focus for Galilean Nights is the objects that Galileo observed, including Jupiter and the Moon, which will be well-positioned in the night sky for observing.

Move over ethanol, there is a new bio-fuel in the world... bunnies.

Thousands of stray rabbits in Sweden are being shot, frozen and then burned for heat. Stockholm even hires rabbit hunters for the task, like Tommy Tuvuynger, a modern day Elmer Fudd.

"We are shooting rabbits in Stockholm center, they are a very big problem," he said. "Once culled, the rabbits are frozen and when we have enough; a contractor comes and takes them away."

Tuvunger is leading the fight to continue sniping bunnies for warmth. Several animal rights groups in Sweden have come out in opposition to the practice, saying that if the rabbits are a problem there are non-lethal ways to deal with them. But Tuvunger is having none of that, "If you do that you only move the problem 100 meters away."

Want to know how to deal with a momentous issue of war or grand strategy? You could do a lot worse than check out what Vice-President Joe Biden thinks – and plump for the opposite.

Mr Biden was chosen as Barack Obama's running mate last August because he was old, white and supposedly knew a lot about foreign policy.

What Mr Obama overlooked was that Mr Biden, who served as a senator for tiny Delaware for 36 years, had never run anything in his life, or taken decisions rather than talking about things, at legendary length.

Making fun of Joe Biden is a bipartisan affair. A quip about Biden being a windbag is guaranteed to bring a Democrat and Republican together in Washington.

Mr Obama himself even dabbled in it in February when he responded to a question about yet another Biden gaffe by saying, "I don't know what Joe was referring to, not surprisingly",

A miffed Mr Biden used his weekly lunch with the President to ask him not to "diss" him in public.

Glenn Beck spread the alarm on his TV show Tuesday about an anti-capitalist, anti-individualist video that is being shown to schoolchildren across America. The video was made by Annie Leonard, a former Greenpeace employee

The narrator explains that because “governments should be of the people, by the people, for the people” that therefore the proper role of government is “to watch out for us — to take care of us. That’s their job.”

After this embrace of Big Government paternalism, the narrator begins bashing corporate America. “Then along came the corporation,” she says. Referring to a drawing of a top hat-wearing fat cat (shown at the top of this blog post), she says ”the reason the corporation looks bigger than the government is that the corporation is bigger than the government.”

The implication must be that corporations are scary and must be controlled.

There’s hardly a true fact in the entire video, Beck notes

If I didn't drink this beer, they might be out of work and their dreams would be shattered. Then I say to myself, it is better that I drink this beer and let their dreams come true than be selfish and worry about my liver.

I feel sorry for people who don't drink. When they wake up in the morning, that's as good as they're going to feel all day.

Baby in Stroller Hit By Train

A six-month-old boy has miraculously survived a train slamming into his stroller after it rolled off an Australian railway platform.

The collision happened as a city-bound service pulled up to Ashburton station, in a Melbourne suburb.

A security video shows the boy's mother taking her hands off the stroller's handles and failing to notice as it slowly edged toward the tracks.

The mom suddenly spots the baby stroller picking up speed and she rushes with outstretched arms to try to save her young child, but the stroller tips over the edge of the platform and the baby slams onto the tracks head first.

Australia's Herald Sun said the train ploughed into the stroller, dragging the child along beneath the train's front car.

But the boy was hauled from the tracks with little more than a bump on his head.

Paramedic Jon Wright said the six-month-old just "needed a feed and a nap".

A gay man tried to poison his lesbian neighbours by putting slug pellets into their curry after he was accused of kidnapping their three-legged cat.

Gary Stewart, 37, had been at loggerheads with Marie Walton and Beverley Sales for months.

But things looked brighter when he made a peace offering of some curry, claiming he had ordered too much from the Indian takeaway.

When the women started to eat, they found the curry studded with slug pellets.

They called the police and Stewart was arrested.

He appeared before magistrates in Manchester where he admitted attempting to poison the two women on September 22.

He denied a further charge of making threats to kill.

Stewart is even alleged to have kidnapped the family's three-legged cat, Amber, and dumped her in a village miles away.

The cat was eventually found after posters were put up with her photograph.

Slug pellets - which normally contain the chemical metaldehyde - can be extremely dangerous to animals and children.
