Wall Street Bailout or Carbon Tax Implementation?

Why is the mainstream media --which keeps lecturing Americans that Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson's Bailout Package Version 2.0 must be passed immediately-- ignoring what might be the most earth-shattering provisions in Paulson's package?

The media needs to start asking hard questions. Here is where they need to start. If you look at page 180 of the 451-page monster bailout bill that easily passed the Senate yesterday (PDF here), you will see that it includes at Section 116 language about the tax treatment of "industrial source carbon dioxide." It also provides, at Section 117, for a "carbon audit of the tax code."

This appears to be an attempt by global warming fanatics to lay the foundation for an economy-killing carbon tax just like the "cap-and-tax" system that is now destroying European industry.

If you think the Mother of All Bailouts is bad, just wait till you see the carbon tax. Get ready to reduce your standard of living drastically.

UN - Meat and Milk Rationing Required to "Save The Planet"

People will have to be rationed to four modest portions of meat and one litre of milk a week if the world is to avoid run-away climate change, a major new report warns.

The report, by the Food Climate Research Network, based at the University of Surrey, also says total food consumption should be reduced, especially "low nutritional value" treats such as alcohol, sweets and chocolates.

Tara Garnett, the report's author, warned that campaigns encouraging people to change their habits voluntarily were doomed to fail and urged the government to use caps on greenhouse gas emissions and carbon pricing to ensure changes were made.

"Study upon study has shown that awareness-raising campaigns alone are unlikely to work, particularly when it comes to more difficult changes."

Here's my answer. I came up with it during one of my Leer Jet trips to Asia. The place was crawling with useless, carbon-breathing babies. The babies are the ultimate mindless consumers. They don't contribute anything to society except waste, gas, noise, and general disturbance. They are perpetually moving obstacles that can trip you up and literally impede your progress towards a brighter, enlightened future.

So I thought, if babies are crawling around aimlessly anyway, why not slip them into static-generating pads connected to the community power grid? Let them earn their keep, sweep the floor, and protect the planet by generating renewable energy at the same time. I call it the TriplePlay™ formula.

clipper's remarks: Owning a car opens up possibilities to a person that is beyond their reach otherwise, it opens up a freedom that many millions do not currently enjoy. The ability to find work at further distances from their homes than ever gives them more choices to find lucrative employment opportunities, the ability to find markets and entertainments are also greatly expanded. All this greatly expands individual freedom.

If many millions more of the people of India (and around the world) find themselves able to afford this new car, it will incredibly improve their standard of living. It will also force the government to redirect their own efforts to internal improvements to accommodate this rise in cars that will add even more to raising the standard of living in once poor countries.

Green communists do not care about people and these two stories add to the ever growing proof that enviro-communists have gravitated to environmentalism as a replacement for an overt espousal of communist ideals.

If you need any more proof that the concept of Global Warming is less "science" and is more just a replacement for the kind of failed concepts of communism and socialism that is increasingly being rejected by the world, two recent stories helps clarify the point.

In a piece titled "Deadly Ozone From Drive-Thru Mania," our Miss Hastings pours out her considerable "intellect" into the theory that drive thru windows are destroying the planet and making us a bunch of fatties.

Yeah, it's all because of ... you guessed it... capitalism. Her solution, of course, is to put an end to all this capitalism stuff like all good communists aim to do.

Isn't this great news? Not to the communists of Greenpeace who are protesting this new product. Green communists are attempting to forever keep the poor in the grinding poverty in which they currently wallow.

Their pals in the media are happy to fan the flames of alarmism over the supposed "global disaster" of this incredible new freedom-promoting car.

It is the epitome of common sense–which is why most liberals are against it. And they can make all the excuses they care to muster regarding it: hardship, “racism,” “disenfranchisement,” inconvenience, “undue burden,” even global warming. Not one iota of it will wash. Quite simply, everyone voting in an American election should be required to show a picture ID.

Why would anyone oppose voter ID? Forget the above rationalizations. They are nothing more than a smoke screen obscuring reality: liberals know that winning elections the “old-fashioned way,” aka convincing a majority of Americans their policy positions are superior is virtually impossible.

I’ll spare you the list of things you can’t do in this country without producing a picture ID. For one thing, most Americans are quite familiar with such realities. For another, it’s a really long list. Those who would exempt voting from it are beyond cynical.

How did the polar bear, one of nature's most vicious beasts, become the doe-eyed poster boy for the green lobby?

Environmentalist groups stick pictures of pitiable bears in their leaflets and on their posters. They feature heavily in Al Gore's Hitchcockian documentary An Inconvenient Truth. Even adverts for low-energy lightbulbs and renewable energy show polar bears adrift in a sea of mangled, melting ice. The message seems clear: "Go green, or the bear gets it."

The global polar bear population has increased from around 5,000 in the 1960s to 25,000 today.

The myth of the desolate bear reveals two things about the politics of environmentalism: first, that it's underpinned by a simplistic, anthropomorphic view of good vs evil, which most of us grew out of before we hit our teens; second, that it frequently bends the facts to fit the fable.

Abiding By Kyoto - Not!

One would think that countries that committed to the Kyoto treaty are doing a better job of curtailing carbon emissions. One would also think that the United States, the only country that does not even intend to ratify, keeps on emitting carbon dioxide at growth levels much higher than those who signed.

And one would be wrong.

Emissions worldwide increased 18.0%.

Emissions from countries that signed the treaty increased 21.1%.

Emissions from non-signers increased 10.0%.

Emissions from the U.S. increased 6.6%.

In fact, emissions from the U.S. grew slower than those of over 75% of the countries that signed Kyoto. Below are the growth rates of carbon dioxide emissions, from 1997 to 2004, for a few selected countries, all Kyoto signers. (Remember, the comparative number for the U.S. is 6.6%.)

Kangaroo Farts to Save the Planet

AUSTRALIAN scientists are trying to give kangaroo-style stomachs to cattle and sheep in a bid to cut the emission of greenhouse gases blamed for global warming, researchers say.

Thanks to special bacteria in their stomachs, kangaroo flatulence contains no methane and scientists want to transfer that bacteria to cattle and sheep who emit large quantities of the harmful gas.

Researchers say the bacteria also makes the digestive process much more efficient and could potentially save millions of dollars in feed costs for farmers.

Another group of scientists, meanwhile, has suggested Australians should farm fewer cattle and sheep and just eat more kangaroos.

It might take a while for kangaroos to become popular barbecue fare, but with concern over global warming growing in the world's driest inhabited continent, Australians could soon be ready to try almost anything to cut emissions.

Indeed, given the fact that all the proposed programs -- Kyoto, etc. -- have zero chance of any meaningful effect other than shifting the wealth of the first world to the soon to be first world, let's go the full 200%.

Let's review:

We've allegedly "warmed" the planet (all by our lonesomes, no help from the sun, that only happens on Mars.)....
Warmed.... the entire planet ( a little, a middling, a lot: take your pick)
Warmed.... by "not realizing what we were doing." (I pass over the fact that, in general, it is better for humans and all life to have a warmer Earth -- see: "Ages, Ice." )
The solution is to, well, "cool the planet."

The word for this is "Terraforming" meaning working on and reshaping an entire world. And we're going to do this, I understand, on a crash program to go on for a century with no limit as to budget.

A race of semi-smart monkeys that can bottle water in Fiji, get it to a corner store in Seattle, but that can't even -- as yet -- figure out how to get clean water to most of the living people across the planet. You'll have to excuse me if I observe we don't even begin to have the knowledge and power to terraform the Earth. It simply isn't in the cards.

Officials at the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs have made a serious proposal that consumers switch to UHT (Ultra-High Temperature or Ultra-Heat Treated) milk to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

It is part of a government strategy to ensure that some 90 per cent of milk on sale will not require refrigeration by 2020.

Officials have calculated that by reducing chiller capacity in supermarkets, convenience stores and corner shops, carbon emissions would be significantly reduced.

Another target that has incensed farmers is that methane emissions from dairy cattle should be reduced by 60 per cent within 15 to 20 years.

Tom Hind, dairy adviser at the National Farmers’ Union, insists that this target is outrageous and could be achieved only by destroying half the national dairy herd and reducing it from two million to one million cattle.
