Lorie pointed out that CBS has a new poll, so I went and had a look, and it's funnier than the comics. Sure, I generally like CBS because they have a consistent methodology, and because they always publish their questions and party breakdown. This allows me to reverse their calculations and see how they got their results.

First off, it's more fun if you play along at home, so here's the poll address.

OK, now let's keep it simple and start with page 14, the last page. Let's read together the last two sentences in that poll:

"Every registered voter is included in the likely voter model, and is assigned a probability of voting, which is used to calculate the likely voter results. The sum of these probabilities is the effective number of likely voters."

In those two sentences, the folks at CBS are admitting that they MADE UP THEIR STATISTICS ON LIKELY VOTERS!!! There are no real voters who were asked if they were likely to vote in this poll - not even one!

clipper's remarks: I know that the reason I moved everything I had out of the markets is that if Obama gets in he's going to destroy a minimum of 1/7th of the economy with his medical idiocy. He's also going to destroy investment with his tax increases and who can tell where the next huge failure will come from with that kind of uncertainty.

Better to sit on the sidelines and see what happens than try to guess exactly what the Democrats might destroy next.

Part of today's sell-off has also got to be the reaction of the business community to the prospect of Obama in power backed by a filibuster-proof majority in the Senate. The full agenda of the modern left, never a realistic possibility in this country until this month, now seems possible if not plausible. Of course capital is scared and cash accumulating on the sidelines. The prospect of radical change is never comforting to investors.

The very panic that has caused the sell-off could also deeply damage Obama's recent momentum. He is, after all, a complete rookie and without any executive experience in good times much less a crisis. Is the country really going to roll the dice on Ayers' friend and neighbor and Rezko's partner, so that he can team with Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid to redesign the American economy in the middle of a global financial crisis and a war?

Here's a nugget from Rep. Brad Sherman (D-CA 27), in a floor speech made yesterday just after 7pm CDT:

Many of us were told in private conversations that if we voted against this bill, on Monday, the sky would fall, the market would drop two or three thousand points in the first day, another couple thousand the second day, and a few members were even told that there would be martial law in America if we voted "No."

Good to know the "fear-mongering" about Bush and martial law is still taking place among Democrats, though. Maybe one of these days, when he's been out of office for a few years or more, America's lefties will finally concede that George Bush isn't hiding under their beds or in their closets, carefully crafting strategeries to steal or cancel elections and to impose martial law.

Former Democratic Congresswoman and Green Party presidential candidate, Cynthia McKinney, is in the news again because she claimed that the government murdered 5000 people during Katrina, dumped their bodies in a swamp, and then covered it up.

The really disturbing thing about this sort of conspiracy mongering is that it has become so commonplace that few people seem immune to it anymore. For God's sake, this is a person who's supposed to be one of our best and brightest -- she's a former democratic Congresswoman and yet she's a drooling loon.

Want to know what's really sad? There are probably at least a dozen other people in Congress who are just as mentally challenged as Cynthia McKinney and guess what? As long as they're in office, they'll be ferociously supported by the Democrats, protected by the mainstream media, and voted back in by their constituents.

“News report: Cheeseburgers give you cancer. Scientist recommend eating crap instead.”

“New scientific study explores why fear and mistrust causes some people to eat cheeseburgers when they have perfectly tasty crap to eat.”

“Only stupid hillbillies like eating cheeseburgers when they could be eating yummy crap.”

At the same time, current Police Chief Long's statement of, "A review of files and case reports within the Wasilla Police Department has found no record of sexual assault victims being billed for forensic exams" would seem to stand on it's own, would it not?

If current Police Chief Long's information is correct, then Mayor Palin didn't know that rape victims were charged for rape kits, because none were.

The entire "scandal" seems to have been manufactured around September 9, when stories began to run through the progressive blogosphere, seemingly out of nowhere. Far left Americablog was the most-linked source, and he credits a small blog called Stop All Monsters.

And while it is merely speculation, given current events and the way this meme spread from an obscure blog to the mainstream media in a matter of days, it may be fair to ask if the author has any ties with Winner & Associates and "astroturfing" expert David Axelrod of the Barack Obama campaign.

NASHVILLE - State Rep. Mike Kernell said today that he was aware of Internet rumors about his son being the subject of speculation that he accessed the personal e-mail of vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin.

Asked whether he or his son, a student at the University of Tennessee-Knoxville, had been contacted by authorities investigating the break-in of Palin's account, he responded:

"Me, no."

As far as his 20-year-old son, David, he said: "I can't say. That doesn't mean he has or hasn't (been contacted by investigators)."

Kernell, D-Memphis, cited the father-son relationship.

Why No Drilling Occurs Domestically

In February 2008, the administration issued 487 leases in Alaska's Chukchi Sea, which holds an estimated 15 billion barrels of oil and 76 trillion cubic feet of natural gas. The Sierra Club, the Center for Biological Diversity, and other groups used the National Environmental Policy Act and the Endangered Species Act to challenge and delay progress on all 487 leases. In a separate lawsuit, they challenged the entire national outer continental shelf (OCS) leasing program, seeking to block all future leases.

Even if a lease makes it through these challenges, it isn't clear sailing. Right now, there are 748 leases in the Chukchi and Beaufort Seas. Exploration activities in every single one were challenged in May of this year by EarthJustice in conjunction with others.

The Alaskan OCS contains 26 billion barrels of oil and 132 trillion cubic feet of natural gas. Not one offshore lease has escaped litigation.

The New York Post reports today that House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Charles Rangel's (D-NY) violation of Congressional rules (and tax law) continues. Seems he's been using the Congressional parking lot as a free storage facility for his no longer registered silver Mercedes Benz

The car is covered with a protective tarp and has no license plates. Rangel's registration on the vehicle expired in 2004, state records show.

House rules forbid use of the garage for long-term storage more than 45 days - and congressional aides told The Post that Rangel's car has been sitting there for years.

What's his motto? Your House is my house?

Democrats To Commuters - Ride a Bike for 20 Bucks

Of course, they are frantically working to make sure that we can't drill for oil precisely where we KNOW it is - because that might actually make sense apparently.

But your legs might be worth a double sawbuck to your employers. Not to you of course - the tax benefit will go to your employer.

Just one other question - are we now going to have bike tax police to monitor the tax returns of business who claim this deduction to verify that the employees are truly humping themselves into the office? When will the first bike tax deduction scofflaw be hauled before the authorities? Lots of employment benefits here.

Section 827 of the bill defines the "Transportation Fringe Benefit to Bicycle Commuters."

It says: "The term 'qualified bicycle commuting reimbursement' means, with respect to any calendar year, any employer reimbursement during the 15-month period beginning with the first day of such calendar year for reasonable expenses incurred by the employee during such calendar year for the purchase of a bicycle and bicycle improvements, repair and storage, if such bicycle is regularly used for travel between the employee's residence and place of employment."

Bottom line: Employers could count as a deductible business expense a tax-free $20 monthly reimbursement to workers who bike to work.

Sebelius was responding to a question from the audience at the Iowa City Public Library about the tenacity of Democrats and whether they would fight for victory as hard as Republicans in the closing weeks of the election.

She did not elaborate on her comment.

The AP or the Miami Herald has edited this article to remove the “(Republicans) will not go lightly into the darkness” quote

“I think that the notion that, ‘By the way, have any of you noticed that Barack Obama is part African American?’ I think that is for a number of people difficult,” Sebelius said. “I think we need to talk about the fact that that is a real issue.”

Sebelius said “code language” raising doubts about Obama is invalid because his life experience “has a lot more to do with me and my family.”

David Axelrod is called the "Master of Astroturfing." Astroturfing is the dishonest PR technique of inserting PR messages straight from the PR shop out into the public, but in the guise of "concerns" of "real citizens" who are "independent" and have "no relationship" whatsoever to the PR campaign.

It tries to disguise itself as a "grassroots" phenomenon -- but it's artificial and inorganic. Hence, "Astroturf."

Axelrod is working his astroturf magic by seeding comments throughout the internet containing his talking points. His new technique is to have the pro-Obama, anti-McCain/Palin talking points coming, supposedly, from "Christians" or "lifelong Republicans."

And, as a concerned Christian conservative, I support the media's brave and honest digging into Sarah Palin's history while studiously avoiding Barack Obama's.
