Maybe in the more secular setting of an upcoming debate, one of our nonpastor moderators could ask the candidates the moral question: What specific rate of individual taxation would it take for the rich to be paying their fair share?

Clip Source: online.wsj.com

He talks about it as a general theme: "It is time for folks like me who make more than $250,000 to pay our fair share."

He invokes it as a solution for Social Security: "[W]e will save Social Security for future generations by asking the wealthiest Americans to pay their fair share."

He points to how it guides his energy policy: "The first part of my plan is to tax the windfall profits of oil companies and use some of that money to help you pay the rising price of gas."

And he stuck to it on capital gains, even after ABC's Charlie Gibson noted that the record shows increased taxes on capital gains -- which would affect 100 million Americans -- would likely lead to a decrease in government revenues: "Well, Charlie, what I've said is that I would look at raising the capital gains tax for purposes of fairness."

It's not about robbing from the rich to give to the poor. That's $22,400 for a family of seven, like Palin's. Since 1982, the Alaska Permanent Fund, which invests oil revenues from state lands, has paid out a dividend on invested oil loot to everyone who has been in the state for a year.

No wonder she is popular with voters in a state whose residents pay no income or sales taxes but are blessed with state coffers rolling in cash at a time when all other states are suffering. Authorities said the items came from "key members of the RNC Welcoming Committee," a self-described anarchist group.

Five people have been arrested and four properties have been searched, according to the sheriff's office.

At 8 a.m. today, the sheriff's office executed search warrants at three Minneapolis homes - 2301 23rd Ave. S., 3500 Harriet Ave. and 3240 17th Ave. S. They were assisted by the FBI, Minneapolis police and the Hennepin County sheriff's office.

A spokesman for the emir of Bida told the BBC that Mohammadu Bello Abubakar, 84, agreed on Saturday to comply with the decree.

Last week one of Nigeria's top Islamic bodies, the Jamatu Nasril Islam, sentenced him to death.

"I have not contravened any established law that would warrant my being banished from the land... There is no law that says one must not marry more than four wives," the AFP news agency reported him as saying.

Nothing.”

Tags: rudy giuliani, flattens, obama

<clipSource>http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/26535647/</clipSource>

Arresting Protesters Before They Protest...Are we o.k. with that?

clipped by: cptenaud
clipper's remarks: Read the comments. Is it still the land of the free? I'm a bit confused. Since when do we raid homes of possible protesters, before they even have a chance to protest? Is it just me...Or is there something seriously wrong with this? Here is some commentary, raw video, and news clips...Let me know what you think about all of this in comments.

By consequence and definition then she can no longer be considered a "reformer". Like McCain, Obama, Pelosi, Hillary, and every other former 2008 candidate, the ultimate test of worthiness is not the American people but to the overbearing Lobby of a foreign government that sets the course of foreign policy in alliance with the neoconservatives--ensuring a continuance of the phony "war on terrorism"--to "make the world safe for Democracy" through wars for "regime change".

How quickly Washington transforms everyone, even from the remotest states, by coercing conformity to global democratic agenda and blind allegiance to Israel through the muscle of The Lobby. This trumps all other considerations, is the hallmark of foreign policy (and why wars never cease), which also in turn has consequences on the economy (high gas prices, national debt, value of money) and domestic policy as well.

Clip Source: firstread.msnbc.msn.com

From NBC/NJ's Matthew E. headline "Obama Practices Humility Preached to Him" (August 24), I
thought that the accompanying story must be a satire. But then I read
the story and discovered that you're serious.

Get real. No
truly humble person - no person who understands the limits of his own
intelligence and capacity - parades around posing as the first plural pronoun
in the outrageously narcissistic chant "we are the change we have been
waiting for." No one with genuine humility utters anything so cocksure
as Mr. Obama's promise to get one million 150-mpg cars on the road by
2015, or his vow to reduce Americans' carbon emissions by 80 percent
(!) by 2050. Genuinely humble people don't presume to know how much
profit earned by private companies is "windfall" - and they certainly
don't formulate plans to confiscate such profits.

Indeed, no one within a light year of humility wants the kind of power and gaudy glory that Mr. Obama and Mr. McCain so desperately seek.

<clipSource>http://cafehayek.typepad.com/hayek/2008/08/humility-schmum.html</clipSource>
