A beam of white light is made up of all the colours in the spectrum. The range extends from red through to violet, with orange, yellow, green and blue in between. But there is one colour that is notable by its absence (click here to check). Pink (or magenta, to use its official name) simply isn’t there. But if pink isn’t in the light spectrum, how come we can see it?

This means that colours only really exist within the brain – light is indeed travelling from objects to our eyes, and each object may well be transmitting/reflecting a different set of wavelengths of light; but what essentially defines a ‘colour’ as opposed to a ‘wavelength’ is created within the brain.

The light spectrum has a colour missing because it does not feel the need to ‘close the loop’ in the way that our brains do. We need colour to make sense of the world, but equally we need to make sense of colour; even if that means taking opposite ends of the spectrum and bringing them together.

Antibacterial Soap May Cause Cancer-Research Underway.

Chloroform, already suspected to cause cancer, has been found by researchers to form when people use antibacterial soaps.

Environmental chemist Peter Vikesland and collaborators at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech) in Blacksburg studied soap that contains triclosan, the ingredient that produces the antibacterial feature within soap. With it being already known that antibacterial soap is no better than regular soap for use around the house, the researchers wondered if, in fact, antibacterial soap might actually be detrimental to one’s health.

They based their work on previous research that showed triclosan reacts with chlorine (which disinfects drinking water). This research showed that chloroform was produced, which has been implicated in the past for possibly causing cancer.

A 22-year-old woman sought medical care for a lesion in the plantar region of her left foot, a well-formed nipple surrounded by areola and hair. Microscopic examination of the dermis showed hair follicles, eccrine glands, and sebaceous glands. Fat tissue was noted at the base of the lesion. Clinical and histopathologic findings were consistent with the diagnosis of supernumerary breast tissue, also known as pseudomamma. To our knowledge, this is the first report of supernumerary breast tissue on the foot.
