Ball Boy Banned after Hitting Keeper with Iron Bar

Not to be outdone by his goal scoring compatriot and riot starting colleagues, a ball boy in Brazil has been suspended for 30 days for hitting a goalkeeper with an iron bar during a match between Comercial and Botafogo-Riberao Preto. The incident, captured in the video above, started when the ball boy hid the ball behind an advertising board instead of handing it to the Botafogo keeper Marcao. After the two argued, the boy did his best professional wrestling routine by whacking Marcao with an iron bar that just happened to be on the field. Apparently the steel chair must have been hidden at the other end of the field. Marcao wasn’t hurt during the incident.

Want to buy an Irish country cottage? Some places won't let you unless you're fluent in Irish Gaelic.

SPIDDAL, IRELAND - Can you imagine having to take an exam – or "The Exam," as it's ominously known around here – before you could buy a house? In this vibrant, friendly town on Galway Bay, potential home buyers must submit to a rigorous oral test to see if they're worthy of receiving the keys to a new home. They aren't tested on housekeeping skills, or health-and-safety know-how, or willingness to lend cups of sugar to neighbors in need. Rather, they're tested to see if they can speak Irish Gaelic – because fluent and committed Irish-speakers are welcomed here over others.

In order to protect the use of the Irish language – to "preserve the region's cultural identity" – the Galway County Council enforces strict regulations about who can – and can't – move in.

"We're discriminating against the rest of the world," explains Tina Curran, an office worker. "We're closing ourselves off to outside influences by only letting certain people in."

Mysterious samurai saves Police in UK Tue 10:50pm

A samurai sword wielding vigilante has come to the rescue of two Police officers when they were attacked by an armed gang in South Shields, England.

A group of men had forced their way into a house and were ransacking the place when passing plain-clothes officers were alerted by a woman inside screaming.

The criminals outnumbered them and were armed with a hammer, knives and chains and attacked the Police officers.

As one of them stabbed at a Policeman with his knife, a mysterious do-gooder appeared from nowhere and attacked him with a samurai sword.

One of the burglars began running away but was stopped by the stranger who struck him on the arm with the sword.

Two of the criminals were arrested, but in true hero style the samurai disappeared before police could speak to him.

A third man was arrested later and two more are still being hunted.

Police are especially keen to trace the man with the sword who came to the aid of their officers, and have asked for anyone with information to call them.

Soundarajan cleared a gender test last year

A top Indian woman athlete who won a silver medal at a recent regional championship has failed a gender test, officials say.

Santhi Soundararajan, who took the silver in the women's 800m race at the Asian Games in Doha, is likely to be stripped of her award, reports say.

Soundararajan, 25, was declared the best athlete at an Indian championship in the capital, Delhi, this year.

In 1999, a woman in an Indian state football team failed a gender test.

Not mandatory

"Santhi was subjected to a gender test in Doha and we have received the report which says she failed the test," said Manmohan Singh, chairman of the Indian Olympic Association's Medical Commission.

The test is not mandatory, but carried out if officials want it or a rival team protests, reports say.

The test was done soon after Soundararajan came second in the women's 800m race on 9 December.

Reports say the athlete cleared the gender test at the Asian track and field championship in South Korea last year where she won the silver medal in the 800m.

It is not clear how she failed the test at the Asian Games in Doha.

This the second controversy to hit Indian athletes within a month - female shot putter Seema Antil was withdrawn from the Asian Games she failed a pre-competition dope test.

Little Britain star Matt Lucas has "married" his long-term partner Kevin McGee in a civil partnership ceremony in London.

Guests at the service included Lucas's comedy partner David Walliams, Dale Winton and comic Rob Brydon.

The ceremony was kept fairly formal, with male guests wearing suits.

But the reception is expected to be an altogether more outrageous affair as guests have been invited to dress in pantomime costumes.

Speaking ahead of the ceremony, Lucas said: "I'm nervous but very excited at the same time."

The 32-year-old has been with TV producer McGee for three years.

Arsenal Fans asked to not bring national flags to matches

Arsenal have asked supporters not to bring national flags to matches at the Emirates Stadium.

The move comes after some fans have been upset at the waving of certain countries' colours.

"Arsenal as a club prides itself on being inclusive with respect to all nationalities, cultural and ethnic groups," read a club statement.

"We are asking that only Arsenal flags, without any national emblems, are displayed within the stadium."

The statement added: "We will be implementing this policy with immediate effect."
