Includes four different ways of achieving this, from using 3rd party macro programs (scripts provided) to directly editing variables used by the SL Client.

Clip Source: www.virtuallytime.com

While a good number of Second Life’s users spend a large amount of time in the world SL, at times real life presents interruptions which can take attention away from the keys (AFK). By default if one is idle for more than 15 minutes in SL the system will log out an account due to inactivity. While this is beneficial for keeping the asset servers and other key operation handling machines from getting too overloaded, it’s not the most favorable of an occurrence when the users is planning to return shortly. Not to mention the hassle of reconfiguring certain options that fail to save between sessions such as disabling of lesser used render types each time after logging in.

Tags: stay online, disable afk in second life, second life, secondlife, sl, afk, idle, stay online while idle in second life

<clipSource>http://www.virtuallytime.com/2007/10/13/how-to-stay-online-while-afk-in-second-life/</clipSource>

How to Reduce Client Side Lag in Second Life

clipped by: Chrischun
clipper's remarks: No one likes lag, whether it be local, server side or something faulting in the middle, choppy, laggy worlds hardly seem like the metaverse of Snow Crash. No one likes lag, whether it be local, server side or some hardware’s fault in the middle. For those who create content, on the Second Life 3.D platform, with and for direct sale to consumers or businesses in mind, listing such products for sale on the more popular web shops should be a familiar and common practice. Besides selling in-world at your own vendor locations and rental shops in malls, clubs and other similar venues, income derived from web based listing and resulting sales, for the time it requires, is just smart business. Approximately 35% of my profit on content sales over the past two months is derived from items sold on SL Exchange, the largest (listing wise) and most popular (by shopper count) web based marketplace.

Tags: content creation, slexchange, sl-exchange, second life exchange, secondlife exchange, slexchange.com, web shop, merchant, builder, scripter

<clipSource>http://www.virtuallytime.com/2007/10/08/how-to-make-more-money-in-second-life-for-content-creators-on-slexchange/</clipSource>

Views From an OpenSim Open Source Grid

clipped by: Chrischun
clipper's remarks: Thanks to an ambitious group of hackers, alternatives to Second Life's Main Grid are already coming online. There can be a lot of debate about if Second Life (SL) is really a game. There are no mandated goals, we can do as much or as little as we like. Having no goals is a bit hard to get used too, but you will soon see the freedom it allows us. I see SL more a “place” to play, rather than a game.

Tags: second life, sl, secondlife, second-life, 3.d, virtual worlds, metaverse, multiverse, tip and tricks, sim

<clipSource>http://www.virtuallytime.com/2007/10/04/tips-and-tricks-for-getting-started-in-second-life/</clipSource>

My Metaverse Can Beat Up Your Metaverse… Can’t We All Just Multiverse Along?

clipped by: Chrischun
clipper's remarks: For those keeping score, Google is gearing up to pwn the Virtual World market, while the Japanese are building their own private garden and China is getting ready to enter the third dimension even if it does require them to practice self-censorship to get there. Finished another project today related to an ongoing attempt at contributing solutions to the continual decay of stability from the current Linden Scripting Language (LSL) online guides. Presenting the LSL Reference On-Demand Gadget. For use while in the world of Second Life as a Heads Up Display (HUD) and standalone object. Provides the ability to search for, request syntax/summary of and provide direct link to the matching web page on the LSL Wiki or SL (LSL part of the) Wiki.

Tags: 3d, gadget, heads up display, hud, lsl wiki, metaverse, online world, scripting language, secondlife

<clipSource>http://www.virtuallytime.com/2007/09/28/content-creation-lsl-reference-on-demand/</clipSource>

Linden Labs to Eurpoean Union Residents: Insta Tax Time

clipped by: Chrischun

Clip Source: www.virtuallytime.com

Virtual world oriented search engines and directories require those in a 3D environment to step back over the line of virtual reality immersion. Is it worth it for much more powerful, but far less results, search abilities? Includes submission information and overviews of top traffic providing SL oriented SEs and directories.

Clip Source: www.virtuallytime.com

At times, it’s easier to mark passing progress of a popular technology by watching supporting industries become available, grow and compete. Second Life has seen the birth of metaversed takes on pay-per-survey affiliate programs, stock markets and currency exchanges have born (and died), better business bureaus and even virtual courts of laws have come about. Strangely, the one service that should be in great demand fails to get much action. I speak of web based search engines and directories oriented around Second Life and virtual worlds in general. But more so ways of providing alternatives to the (currently) not so great in-client <STRIKE>find</STRIKE> search.

Tags: second life, metaverse, multiverse, virtual reality, vr, 3d, search engine, directory, secondlife

<clipSource>http://www.virtuallytime.com/2007/09/25/dont-forget-to-advertise-your-virtual-location-on-that-old-web-thing/</clipSource>

RockMe.
