Tawny owl flies into record books

A record-breaking tawny owl has astounded experts by becoming a mother again at the ripe old age of 21.

The bird, which is nesting in Kershope Forest, Cumbria, was ringed in 1987 and has reached four times the average life expectancy of a tawny in the wild.

Last year she entered the record books as the oldest breeding female of her kind in the wild in the UK.

If the owl can survive until October, she will become the oldest tawny owl ever recorded in Britain.

The record is currently held by a male found freshly dead in North Yorkshire in 1988 aged 21 years, 5 months and 13 days.

Giant Dinosaur Skeleton Up For Auction

A 65-million-year-old dinosaur is going under the hammer at an auction in Paris.

The monster-size skeleton of a triceratops is expected to sell for up to 500,000 euros when it goes on sale at a Christie's auction next month.

At 7.5 metres high and weighing in at nearly two tonnes, the fossil would make a sizeable contribution to any enthusiast's home.

The skull of the triceratops, which weighs 200 kg and measures 1.7 metres, was difficult to get through the doors of the auction house because of its size.

She was bought by The Field Museum in Chicago for more than £4m - a record for a fossil.

It's been nearly a decade since the band has released material, which will see the light of day in April in the UK. Still no release date in the U.S. ~~the bastards!~~

Alanis Morissette has just about completed her new studio album 'Flavors Of Entanglement'.

Yesterday evening Canadian pop star/singer & songwriter Alanis Morissette finished recording her latest album 'Flavors Of Entanglement'. The album will be released in early 2008, in support of her future United States tour with Matchbox Twenty.

The new album will be her first studio album since 'So Called Chaos' from 2004. Her most popular record, 'Jagged Little Pill', has sold more than 40 million copies since its American debut in 1995.

German and French foreign ministers to record R&B duet

BERLIN (Reuters) - The French and German foreign ministers will record a "rhythm and blues" song on European integration next week, an official spokesman said on Friday.

The song by Bernard Kouchner and Frank-Walter Steinmeier will be recorded in Berlin on Monday on the sidelines of a Franco-German summit, which will focus on European integration.

"The two foreign ministers want to make their contribution to the debate but in a somewhat unconventional way," German Foreign Ministry spokesman Martin Jaeger told a news conference.

They will go to a studio in Berlin's Kreuzberg district, a heavily Turkish section of the German capital, and record with young people from the neighbourhood.

The first sounds of Cat Power's second covers record, Jukebox, have surfaced in the form of the one truly new and original song on the album, 'Song to Bobby'. After hearing the cover of 'StuckInsideOfMobileWithTheMemphisBluesAgain', and now this one, it is evident that there has been some intensive Dylan listening going on. 'Bobby'? This song is pretty, and Ms. Marshall's invocation of Dylan is much more convincing in the form of an homage than a direct cover. Stay tuned as more tracks get released.

The championships will be judged at Lauder College in Dunfermline on Wednesday before the winner is announced later in the month.
