Microsoft have just announced what was a rumor for a while a formal offer of $44.6 Billion for Yahoo, the proposal to Yahoo’s board of directors represents $31 per share which is a 62% premium over yesterday’s closing price or $44.6 Billion.

CEO Steve Ballmer said “We have great respect for Yahoo!, and together we can offer an increasingly exciting set of solutions for consumers, publishers and advertisers while becoming better positioned to compete in the online services market.”

Well apparently this amazing deal was put out in a letter which was sent to Yahoo’s board by Ballmer, the letter did confirm that the two major companies have indeed been discussing the topic since late 2006 and it also appears to be a direct response to the Google threat which was outlined in the following paragraph.

The question here is “Do you think it is a good idea Microsoft buying Yahoo?

We just saw a video during his speech that shows what life may be like for the world's most famous CEO. His days are filled working on his six-pack with Matthew McConaughey, "Big Pimpin'" in the studio with Jay-Z, begging Jon Stewart for a gig on the Daily Show, and calling every Democrat he knows to see if they'll let him run for Vice President. It's too bad, when he called Barack Obama and said "It's Bill", Obama's first guess was "Shatner?" (His second guess was Bill Clinton.) Check out the gallery for more stills from the video, and best of luck Bill, even if George Clooney won't play you in a movie. Michael Czeiszperger, general manager of Web Performance Inc. in Durham, N.C., used his free time -- and some of WPI's tools -- to measure how fast the Windows versions of Apple's Safari, Microsoft's Internet Explorer 7 (IE 7) and Mozilla's Firefox 2 grabbed pages.

"I noticed that Apple used canned benchmarks, not actual load time measurements," said Czeiszperger, explaining why he timed the browsers.

It's still most people's favorite Windows OS (not me, I really like Vista), combining the stability of Windows 2000/NT with the eye candy of a consumer-focused OS like Windows 98 (note that we skipped WinMe for a reason). So happy birthday Windows XP, and may you live on in old ass dentist computers for years to come.
