As people may recall, the IE team sent Mozilla a cake after Firefox 2 shipped and it seems that they wanted to continue the tradition.

Sean and I used to work together and I happened to be the one that saw him as he came in so he presented the cake to me and John Lilly and we then took it around to staff. I think people found it amusing and the “E” portion of the Firefox 2 cake, which is preserved in our freezer to this day, was pulled out for comparison. I must say, the new cake is much nicer (and much less brown) than the old one.

Tags: mozilla firefox, ie, team

<clipSource>http://www.arcanology.com/2008/06/17/ie-sends-mozilla-a-new-cake-for-firefox-3/</clipSource>

Set a Record on Download Day 2008

clipped by: Charolastra

Clip Source: www.firefoxfacts.com

Want to help Firefox set a world record? Sure you do! Mozilla and company want to set a world record for the number of browser downloads within 24 hours.

The New York Times ad…Firefox Flicks…the Firefox crop circle…Operation Firefox…you name it! The newest version of our favorite open source web browser, Mozilla Firefox 3, offers dozens of new features and fixes, but only a handful will make the most dramatic difference in your everyday browsing. After 17 months of alphas and betas, Mozilla's finally made a feature-complete release candidate available, so it's time to spotlight the biggest improvements that will make "Gran Paradiso" the browser to beat. Nearly everything in the open-source app has gotten a second look from the minds at Mozilla, from back buttons to bookmarks, address bars to add-ons, passwords to performance, and the changes will make Firefox 3 worth the upgrade come its official release date, slated for sometime next month. Let's take a look at the 10 best upgrades in Firefox 3, and how they'll bolster your browsing, after the jump.

Can you tell which is which?

Below is another photo of the same star, from the Wikipedia entry on V838 Monocerotis. If the above photo has been photoshopped to look more like the Firefox logo, the editing seems minimal: it's been rotated relative to the photo below, and some of the gas cloud may have been edited out around the "tail" of the fox.

If you've got a link to the original Hubble photo used above, let us know in the comments so we can compare. UPDATE: An eagle-eyed commenter, Wevah, spotted the original version of the Firefox-like nova photo on Wikipedia. It looks like the only modification was to rotate the image. It must be a sign from the stars!

Tags: firefox, logo, space

<clipSource>http://blog.wired.com/gadgets/2008/04/firefox-logo-sp.html</clipSource>

Announcing the Extend Firefox 2 Winners

clipped by: Charolastra

Clip Source: blog.mozilla.com

We've written extensively about Firefox's memory problems in the past and while Firefox 3 will address some of the issues, it won't solve the problem for everyone.

Part of Firefox’s memory overhead is by design. Whenever you visit a page in Firefox, the browser caches it for some time. If you frequently go back and forth between pages this cuts down on load time, but the trade off is increased memory usage.

RAMback simply adds a menu item to the tools menu (pictured above) that allows you to quickly dump your caches. If you assign a keyboard shortcut to it, you’ve got a quick, simple way to dump caches whenever you need to.

Tags: firefox 3, add-on, memory, ramback, stuart parmenter

<clipSource>http://blog.wired.com/monkeybites/2007/11/firefox-3-add-o.html</clipSource>

Happy Birthday FireFox

clipped by: Charolastra

Clip Source: pcspot.net

It’s been one year since version 1 of FireFox was released! Chewed up a nice bit of Internet Explorers Market share. Firefox only: Love the bookmarks toolbar but only want it there when you need it? Reader Andy writes in with a tweak that makes the toolbar hide automatically, unless you mouse over it (like auto-hiding your Windows taskbar or Mac Dock.) To turn on auto-hiding you have to edit your Firefox profile's copy of
userChrome.css
 Here's the code you need:

Tags: firefox, bookmarks, toolbar

<clipSource>http://lifehacker.com/software/firefox-tip/auto+hide-your-firefox-bookmarks-toolbar-316445.php</clipSource>

Safari beats IE, Firefox in speed trials

clipped by: Charolastra

Clip Source: www.computerworld.com

October 24, 2007 (Computerworld) -- Safari is faster than rival browsers from Microsoft Corp. and Mozilla Corp., a North Carolina Web testing firm said today -- putting proof to Apple Inc.'s June boast that its browser was the quickest.

Michael Czeiszperger, general manager of Web Performance Inc. in Durham, N.C., used his free time -- and some of WPI's tools -- to measure how fast the Windows versions of Apple's Safari, Microsoft's Internet Explorer 7 (IE 7) and Mozilla's Firefox 2 grabbed pages.

"I noticed that Apple used canned benchmarks, not actual load time measurements," said Czeiszperger, explaining why he timed the browsers.
