This is the "Who Did It?" clock. Every hour that there's light, on the hour, it farts. When the lights are out it'll refrain from waking you up with flatulence, leaving that to you and/or your bedmate. I'd say that this is a great way to see exactly how long you'll find farts funny, but something tells me that for many of us, the answer to that question is "always." A commenter on the Copyranter blog where we found this notes that he used to work in a jewelry store where the electrical box was installed in the bathroom. TV Easel is Not Just For Artsy Types

I may be a little biased because I enjoy painting, but this TV easel concept from designer Axel Bjurström is a hell of a lot nicer than one of the kits you can pick up from your local Target. The best part is that the design mimics the traditional painter's easel in both form and function—it is adjustable in both height and angle. It can also accommodate TV sizes from 32 to 47 inches. Pen-top utensils! Seriously, are these not the greatest inventions ever? I never want to use regular flatware again, as I can't jot down notes on my dinner with a normal fork. High School Student Builds 100% Wooden Bike

16 year-old Marco Facciola built this completely wooden bike for a school project, managing to avoid using any metal at all. Yes, this wooden wheeled wonder even has a chain and gearing made of wood, held together with wooden joints and glue. The detail in the free-wheeling ratchet and spacers between the chain links, pinned with tiny dowels, is amazing. Marco had to complete this as a non-academic project for his International Baccalaureate, and inspiration came from his grandfather, forced to make wooden wheels for his bike during the war due to rubber shortages. Stomach Full? Brain May Not Know

Overweight People's Brains Seem Slow to Sense Satiety

In their new study, Wang and colleagues had 18 adult volunteers swallow balloons -- sections of latex condoms tied off with unwaxed dental floss -- attached to a long tube. Once the balloons were in the patients' stomachs, the researchers filled them with body-temperature water. The idea was to simulate eating enough food to fill the stomach.

Interestingly, the thinner the subject, the more likely that person was to report feeling full when the balloon was full. The heavier the patients, the less likely they were to feel full with a filled water balloon in their stomachs.

Sweetener Side Effects: Case Histories

Jan. 10, 2008 -- Consuming sweets and chewing gum with sugar substitutes may help the weight-conscious slash calories, but excessive use of the sweetener sorbitol can cause extreme weight loss and other problems, according to a new report.

Reports of side effects such as abdominal pain and diarrhea with high amounts of sorbitol consumption are nothing new, says Roger Clemens, DrPH, a spokesman for the Institute of Food Technologists and professor of pharmacology and pharmaceutical sciences at the University of Southern California, Los Angeles.

"Sorbitol is not well absorbed," Clemens says. As a result, excess water enters the gastrointestinal tract and diarrhea can occur. Those who rely on artificially sweetened products to help manage their diabetes or to reduce overall calories, he says, should use a variety of such products and consume them in moderation. Sorbitol is found in toothpastes as well as chewing gum and sweets.
