Even though Fall doesn't officially begin until next week, the Christmas catalogs have already begun to arrive. While I get that Christmas trees aren't necessarily "Christian" — they can be a fun way to celebrate the otherwise cold and dark winter season with light and color — there are some extremely odd ornaments for sale in the new catalog from Bronner's. Oh, I'm not talking about the usual wacky stuff: Snowmen, moose, birds, dolphins, vintage cars, Santa drinking wine, Betty Boop, frogs getting married, pirate ships, Hello Kitty, unicorns. I'm talking about seriously crazy items that will make even the most traditional among you say, well, Christ. What is this holiday really all about? Japan’s famous Harajuku district, is famous for the extreme and weird fashions and cultures it is home to. From Yamambas to Gothic Doll Girls. If you are wandering around this wild section of Japan, you are likely to get an eye full.

With the recent trends you may even see an increased number of girls that appear injured. Heads wrapped in bandages and eyes covered in patches, these girls have not been on the losing end of a fight, but rather the youth of Kegadoru, translated “injured idols” and a fetish for scantily clad women to dress up in bandages.

“Many of the men who come to Akihabara often compliment us on how good our bandages look, or how cute they are. For girls hanging out in Akihabara, bandages and eye patches have become a must-have fashion item.”

Attention seeking to the next level it seems a shame that these girls feel like bandages and fake injuries are the only way to a man’s heart.

Edward Teach or possibly Thatch, was famous for several things that are documented and reek of the strange and as Kenneth Hite says, High Weirdness.
He would drink a mixture of gunpowder and rum set aflame... Talk about a Belch you do not want to be around.
He tied "slow matches" (used for lighting cannons) into his hair and beard so there would be a wreath of smoke around his head.
He shot his best friend and first mate, Israel Hands in the knee, crippling him for life just a day before his death at Okecroake Island off NC. When Israel asked why, Teach said he was saving his life! (Knew about his own death? Planned it himself?)
Weirdest Fact: Held Charleston, SC hostage for several weeks until his ransom was paid - a box of Native herbs and Tobacco...

Weird Science: Dancing Bubbles

Things you need:

Large glass container-like 10 gallon fish tank

1 cup of vinegar

½ cup of baking soda

Bubble solution and wand

spread the ½ cup of baking soda onto the bottom of the fish tank. Then pour in one cup of vinegar. The mixture will fizz and bubble as they react to form carbon dioxide gas and water as the final product. When the fizzing is done, blow some bubbles so that they land in the tank, without blowing directly into the tank. This may take some practice. If you blow directly into the tank, you will blow carbon dioxide gas out of the tank. As the bubble floats down into the tank, it will stop and sit on the layer of carbon dioxide gas. Observe what happens to the bubbles.

What you could also try with an adult is to light a match and slowly lower it into the tank. What happens?

Because the tank contains only carbon dioxide, please keep a good distance from the bottom of the tank.

Thomas Jensen, head of a small company in Buesum, has been taken to an employment tribunal for firing non-smokers and replacing them with smokers, who, he said, "fitted in better".

The company laid off three non-smokers and said it would not be hiring any more people who don’t smoke. "Smokers have always been our best employees. Non-smokers interfere with corporate peace,” Jensen said. "They just complained all the time about smoking, and I don't like grumblers.”

German law forbids smoking in pubs and restaurants but permits it for people working in small offices. The three sacked employees have begun proceedings for unfair dismissal, but Jensen is resolute. He notes that among the deficiencies of the problematic non-smokers was their tendency to “distance themselves from the smokers at social events”, something especially irksome, he said, as “it didn't build any team spirit”.
