In the 80's and the 90's rock, heavy metal, whatever you want to call it went hand in severed hand with our beloved genre. Often enough "music videos" either containing clips from the films or that invented their own stories inspired by the themes of the movies in question would surface weeks before a film's release

A quarter of Canadians don't believe in any god

TORONTO - A new Canadian Press Harris-Decima survey suggests that fewer than three-quarters of Canadians believe in a god.

Seventy-two per cent of respondents of the one-thousand people questioned this month said they believed in a god, 23 per cent said they didn't, and six per cent had no opinion. In looking at the numbers, United Church minister Keith Howard says they aren't much different from previous polls about Canadians' beliefs.

Howard says he senses that people who believe in a god increasingly imagine a powerful, but nebulous force for good - kind of like the Force in the Star Wars movies.

He also notes that a recent international survey rating the importance of religion in people's lives placed Canadians fourth, behind the U.S., Mexico and Italy.

The Harris-Decima poll also found women are more likely than men to believe in a god, and that Canadians over 50 are far more likely than those under 25 to be believers.

The survey has a margin of error of 3.1 percentage points

According to Wikipedia: Several ideas from the original conception of the film were dropped before production. During the opening theme, the film was supposed to include clips from all the movies mentioned in the song "Science Fiction Double Feature".[8] Producers discovered quickly that obtaining the rights to all the various film clips would be very costly, and cut the idea.

I watched three fan clips using this idea and liked this one best.

RIP Vampira, aka Maila Nurmi

With a heavy heart I deliver the sad news that our friend Maila Nurmi, famous for her portrayal of Vampira, has passed at age 86.

Maila passed away peacefully in her sleep at home.

Funeral arrangements are pending legal steps as Maila had no relatives. Her friends are trying to get her a spot at Hollywood Forever Cemetery and will likely plan some sort of hearse procession for her.

The very reliable Bloody-Disgusting claims to have gotten some info from an insider at New Line Cinema who indicates that the studio is "actively developing another Nightmare on Elm Street movie." The new installment will not be a sequel to the very-fun Freddy vs. Jason, nor will it be the long-rumored prequel. Just what will it be, exactly? A remake of the original? A continuation of the original series' continuity? Will Robert Englund even be involved? None of this is known yet. Apparently New Line is batting around a whole bunch of different concepts. Stay tuned, Freddyphiles.

October 5: Take the Halloween Horror filmmaking Challenge

Founder Hakan Besim has announced the launch of the 2007 Halloween Horror Film Challenge, a free global fright filmmaking competition based around a central theme. This year, entrants are invited to submit films incorporating “The Final Five,” i.e. any of the following themes:

• Five minutes to death
• Five minutes to the end of the world
• Five minutes to midnight
• Five minutes to Halloween night

Or five minutes to anything, actually; the theme is yours to choose, as long as it incorporates “The Final Five.” While entry into this competition is free and there are no registration fees, donations are accepted. First Prize is the new version of the Avid Express Pro editing program and the Halloween Horror Trophy; second prize is the Pinnacle Studio Ultimate Version 11 video postproduction software; third prize is the Jellypie Video Stock Box, a collection of 500 royalty-free video loops.

If it's getting near Halloween, it must be time again for Hell's Circus.

Proclaimed by its creator, Mike Trejo, as "a rock and roll psychodrama," the circus descends on Hoag Hall Sept. 29 on the Colorado State University-Pueblo campus.

Doors will open at 6:30 p.m.

The 20 performers - actors, musicians, dancers and filmmakers - have combined talents to fashion a dark comedy based on a love of B-grade horror movies, rock music and theatrics.

This year's show will feature the talent of Sporadic Consistency, Se7en-Days-Lost and the Dance Unlimited School, and others.

The show is an all-ages event, but those 12 and younger should be accompanied by an adult. Attendees are encouraged to arrive in costume.

Tickets cost $5 in advance but cost more at the door.
