Edward Teach or possibly Thatch, was famous for several things that are documented and reek of the strange and as Kenneth Hite says, High Weirdness.
He would drink a mixture of gunpowder and rum set aflame... Talk about a Belch you do not want to be around.
He tied "slow matches" (used for lighting cannons) into his hair and beard so there would be a wreath of smoke around his head.
He shot his best friend and first mate, Israel Hands in the knee, crippling him for life just a day before his death at Okecroake Island off NC. When Israel asked why, Teach said he was saving his life! (Knew about his own death? Planned it himself?)
Weirdest Fact: Held Charleston, SC hostage for several weeks until his ransom was paid - a box of Native herbs and Tobacco...

1675 – Born- November 23rd, in Bristol, England. Edward Teach better known as Blackbeard was a notorious English pirate who had a short reign of terror in the Caribbean Sea.

1716 – He served as a pirate under Benjamin Hornigold who retired in 1717, taking advantage of an amnesty extended to privateers by the British government.

1718 – His best known vessel was the Queen Anne's Revenge, which is believed by some to have run aground near Beaufort Inlet, North Carolina and died this year.

Keam initially claimed his long-time acquaintance was injured in a drive-by shooting but evidence collected from the crime scene prompted him to change his story

He carried the murder weapon in his pocket when he was initially questioned by deputies

He took responsibility for shooting in a taped interview that occurred hours later

Keam told deputies he had been drinking and taking prescription medication in the hours before the shooting

The defendant testified during the trial that he didn’t remember anything about the fatal shooting

MUNICH, Germany (Reuters) - Two Italian women carrying luggage containing the remains of a man who died in Brazil 11 years ago were stopped by Munich airport police during a stopover on their journey from Sao Paulo to Naples.

"Airport security spotted the skull and bones when the suitcase was put through the x-ray machine," police spokesman Christian Maier said.

One of the women was the dead man's sister and she explained to surprised officials that it had been her brother's wish to be buried in Italy.

After showing his death certificate, the Italians, aged 63 and 62, were allowed on their next flight to Naples.

"We questioned the women and they produced a valid death certificate showing he had died 11 years ago of natural causes. As they were not violating any German laws they were allowed to continue their journey to Italy," said Maier.

The body of a man, believed to be dead for nearly a decade, has been found in a UK flat, where a council tenant continued to live.

The body of the tenant's former lodger was discovered by council workers on a sofa in the lounge room after neighbours reported a foul smell.

Police believe the dead man was in his 70s.

Police initially arrested the tenant living in the unit but are no longer treating the death as suspicious.

They believe the elderly tenant failed to report the death because he suffers severe mental health problems.

Bristol Coroner's Court will open an inquest today and Bristol City Council has launched an internal inquiry into how the corpse went unnoticed for so long.

A spokesman for the council says it's suspected the body was there for at least eight years.

As Valentine's Day approaches, scientists have confirmed the lament of countless love sonnets and romance novels: People really can die of a broken heart, and the researchers now think they know why.

A traumatic breakup, the death of a loved one or even the shock of a surprise party can unleash a flood of stress hormones that can stun the heart, causing sudden, life-threatening heart spasms in otherwise healthy people

The phenomenon can trigger what seems like a classic heart attack and can put victims at risk for potentially severe complications and even death

"When you think about people who have died of a 'broken heart,' there are probably several ways that can happen," said Ilan S. Wittstein of the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine in Baltimore

"A broken heart can kill you, and this may be one way."

researchers suspect it is more frequent than most doctors realize -- primarily among older women -- and is usually mistaken for a traditional heart attack

The world famous chess mega-champion has died. He was 64 years old. Bobby Fischer, born in Chicago, was a United States chess champion by age 14, and a Grand Master within a year after that. His most famous match, the one that rocketed him to world fame, was his cold war match against the reining soviet chess champion in 1972. Fischer passed away yesterday at a hospital in Iceland. No details about cause of death have been released.

a part of lunch. The bustling New Lucky Restaurant in Ahmadabad is famous for its milky tea, its buttery rolls, and the graves between the tables

Krishan Kutti Nair has helped run the restaurant built over a centuries-old Muslim cemetery for close to four decades, but he doesn't know who is buried in the cafe floor

"The graveyard is good luck,

Our business is better because of the graveyard."

The graves probably belong to the family or associates of a 16th- century Sufi saint whose tomb is nearby, according to Varis Alvi, a retired professor in Ahmadabad.

An Italian firm of undertakers has unveiled its 2008 calendar - featuring glamour models draped over its range of coffins.

Owber Maurizio Matteucci defended the calendar - on sale at his firm's outlets for just £7 - which has caused outrage in the Catholic country.

"Coffins are consumer goods like any other things, so I sell in the same way as any other consumer goods are sold. The calendar is very popular."

Police found the headless body of Belle "the Black Widow" Gunness, perhaps the most infamous female serial killer in history, in the basement of her burned-out Indiana farmhouse in 1908.

Yet nearly 100 years after the killer's corpse was buried, no one is certain that it belongs to Gunness; many think the Norwegian immigrant faked her own death and fled to California to continue her killing streak for another 23 years.

To put the mystery to rest, University of Indianapolis researchers are comparing DNA from the now-exhumed body to cells stuck to letters that Gunness sent to cash-heavy male suitors — all of whom probably ended up buried behind the house, said Andrea Simmons, a graduate student in human biology leading the forensic investigation.

"Gunness has got to be the most prolific female serial killer in history," Simmons told LiveScience. "She clearly killed 25 people, arguably 40, in less than a decade but we're not sure when she died. We're trying to put a lid on this case."
