Mormon Ousted for Shirtless Calendar

The creator of a calendar that featured shirtless Mormon missionaries was excommunicated Sunday after a disciplinary meeting with local church leaders in Las Vegas.

Chad Hardy said he bears no ill will toward the council of elders from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

"I felt like I spoke my truth," the 31-year-old entertainment entrepreneur said. "Bottom-line, they still felt the calendar is inappropriate and not the image that the church wants to have."

"Men on a Mission," which has sold nearly 10,000 copies at $14.99 each, included pictures of 12 returned missionaries wearing black slacks, but not their trademark white shirts, in modest poses. The men also were photographed in traditional missionary garb and share their religious beliefs in biographical sketches.

Some of the 12 models have also been called to disciplinary meetings, but none were punished.

Time: 10 minutes + freezing time
Servings: 6

1 c thinly sliced fresh strawberries
1/2 c premium semisweet chocolate chips
1 1/2 c chocolate soymilk

1. Fill 6 ice pop molds evenly with strawberries, then chocolate chips, then soymilk. (Note: There should be about 1/2" of space at the top of each mold to allow for expansion during freezing. Adjust soymilk accordingly.) Insert handles/sticks into molds.

The vibrating platform, was tested by checking the improvement by recording the time they could stand on one leg, they generally showed improved balance.
They tested for balance, but osteoporosis , and deep vein thrombosis, are thought to become more likely as activity decreases. This platform, and the vibrations could also provide the muscle movement that can alleviate these conditions as well.

PhD student Sven Rees of the University of Technology, Sydney and colleagues report their findings in the Journal of Science and Medicine in Sport.

"We're trying to look at interventions to assist with physical function in old age," says Rees.

As people age, they are more likely to lose balance and muscle strength, which makes them more likely to fall over.

Rees says previous research has suggested that vibration of muscles can cause reflex contractions, which in turn strengthens the muscles.

Then they got some of the participants to do light resistance training on a vibrating platform.

The exercise sessions lasted for less than 10 minutes and took place three times a week for eight weeks.

Rees emphasises the platform would not be a "silver bullet" to reduce the risk of falls, but could be one tool for older people who can't make it to the gym.

The twins, known as Par 1802, reveal one is developmentally delayed compared to its partner

Par 1802 provides direct evidence that birth order in 'identical twin' stars can manifest itself as observable physical difference

Professor Keivan Stassun in the journal Nature

The discovery is more than a curiosity: Par 1802 is an eclipsing binary star system, meaning the twins periodically orbit in front of one another, relative to earth, temporarily and regularly blocking its partner's light.

Such phenomena are yardsticks for measuring stars' basic physical properties and for testing theories about stellar evolution.

The finding may mean that thousands of young stars may need to have their ages readjusted by as much as 20% for average-sized stars and 50% for low-mass stars like brown dwarfs.

The Rasterbator originated as a web application at homokaasu.org, but it has gained so much popularity that the web server occassionally cannot handle the load and a standalone version was in place.

The standalone version is the same as the web version, except that downloading images from the web and image cropping are not supported, and you have to set the output size numerically (number of pages wide/high) rather than using a fancy drag handle. The results are exactly the same.

In this article, we'll look at how the tattoo process works and examine the safety and legal issues surrounding it.

Artists create tattoos by injecting ink into a person's skin. To do this, they use an electrically powered tattoo machine that resembles (and sounds like) a dental drill. The machine moves a solid needle up and down to puncture the skin between 50 and 3,000 times per minute. The needle penetrates the skin by about a millimeter and deposits a drop of insoluble ink into the skin with each puncture.
