Women might soon be able to produce sperm in a development

Scientists are seeking ethical permission to produce synthetic sperm cells from a woman's bone marrow tissue

The researchers said they had already produced early sperm cells from bone-marrow tissue taken from men.

findings show that it may be possible to restore fertility to men who cannot naturally produce their own sperm.

But the results also raise the prospect of being able to take bone-marrow tissue from women and coaxing the stem cells within the female tissue to develop into sperm cells,

I would like to teach my sons — 16 and 17 — that wine is a wonderful part of a meal.

I want to teach them to enjoy it while also drumming it into them that when abused, wine, like any other alcoholic beverage, can be a grave danger.

As they were growing up I occasionally gave them tastes from my glass

With both boys now in high school, I thought it was time to offer them the option of small tastes at dinner.

In European wine regions, a new parent might dip a finger in the local pride and wipe it lovingly across an infant’s lips — “just to give the taste.”

A teenager might have a small glass of wine, introducing an adult pleasure in a safe and supervised manner.

This is how I imagined it in my house

But about a year ago, my wife attended a gathering

sponsored by several high schools addressing the topic of teenagers and alcohol

discussion centered on the real dangers of binge drinking and peer pressure

and of the law

After all, it's not every day you see a horse perform a gravity-defying flip of such dizzying proportions.

The four-year-old mare, called Schattenlady, who had lost her rider moments into a race, went into these spectacular acrobatics as she tried to dislodge her loosened saddle as well.

With crowds at the course in Hanover, Germany, watching in horror, she somersaulted right over before falling flat on her back.

Happily was only shaken and bruised and walked away soon after.

And amazingly, both horse and jockey emerged from the acrobatics unscathed.

But the question stuck in my mind and I naturally began to think of what wouldn’t convince me. Thus, if the goal of these students was to evangelize an atheist, it seemed perfectly appropriate that I give them a list of what wouldn’t work, so they could creatively come up with some new arguments, as their class title suggests. I meant this to be educational and in no way condescending, and that is how I hope the students perceive my presentation.
