clipper's remarks: recently my dad, bought a carton of 18 eggs, all contained double yolks. This worried me, as I believed that it was rare occurrence.

I'm still going to tell him to ask this farmer he is using hormones, has using hormones is also a method to get double yolks

Double-yolked eggs are reasonably common for ducks and chickens, despite the fact that we so rarely see them in stores.

It is estimated that 1 in 1,000 eggs (out of 50 billion produced annually in the US) have double yolks

Eggs increase in size as the number of yolks increases, but most of them are caught by "candling," or holding the egg up to a light source to reveal a shadow of what is inside the shell, and used for other egg products instead of being mixed in with single-yolks

Stores that do offer the eggs usually have one local source for them. The chickens, ducks and other birds that lay them have a genetic tendency to produce the eggs, so if a farm is stocked with such birds, most of their eggs with have double yolks.

Far less common are multiple yolk eggs, including triples and quadruples, like the one pictured above. Apparently, the greatest number of yolks found in one egg was nine!

If it had been an equestrian gymnastics event, she would have scored a perfect 10.

After all, it's not every day you see a horse perform a gravity-defying flip of such dizzying proportions.

The four-year-old mare, called Schattenlady, who had lost her rider moments into a race, went into these spectacular acrobatics as she tried to dislodge her loosened saddle as well.

With crowds at the course in Hanover, Germany, watching in horror, she somersaulted right over before falling flat on her back.

Happily was only shaken and bruised and walked away soon after.

And amazingly, both horse and jockey emerged from the acrobatics unscathed.

clipper's remarks: In third year linguistics I wrote a report on swearing and euphemisms. I got a B+ for my efforts. It was really a fun paper to write I even used George Carlen as a source.
It’s no everyday you see Carlen and Freud cited in the same report.

What I found interesting was how words that are euphemisms become vulgar and then we need need euphemisms.
Take the word ‘Arse’ for an example, this was considered to be vulgar and the euphemism ‘Ass’ was used instead. Today the roles have reversed, ‘Ass’ is seen as the vulgar and many people will use ‘Arse’ as a euphemism.

Albert Hofmann, the Swiss chemist who discovered LSD, has died. He was 102.

Hofmann's death was confirmed on the Web site of the Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies. Rick Doblin, the head of the organization, says Hofmann died of a heart attack Tuesday at his home in Basel (BAH'-zuhl), Switzerland

Hofmann's experience with LSD began in the 1930s when he began studying the chemistry of ergot, the common name for a fungus that grows on rye, barley and certain other plants

Hofmann devised a technique to make a series of derivatives of lysergic acid, the primary active ingredient of ergot. The 25th compound he synthesized, in 1938, was lysergic acid diethylamide (dye-THEYE'-lih-mide), or LSD-25
