Sen. John McCain today attempted to clarify comments about the collapse of a bridge in Minneapolis,

In Pennsylvania yesterday, McCain said the Interstate 35W bridge collapse last summer resulted from the fact that lawmakers have consistently spent taxpayers' dollars on items aimed at bolstering their political standing back home

The bridge in Minneapolis didn't collapse because there wasn't enough money," McCain told reporters. "The bridge in Minneapolis collapsed because so much money was spent on wasteful, unnecessary pork-barrel projects.

told reporters that they should not necessarily accept the senator's analysis that a Minneapolis bridge collapse stemmed from wasteful federal spending

Former New York Governor Mario Cuomo said the presidential race between Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama could be ``ruinous'' for the Democratic Party if the contest isn't resolved before the August nominating convention.

Candidates should be grilled on their Iraq war positions and how they would improve the economy, said Cuomo, 75.

The Iraq War, for example, is ``illegal,'' and candidates should be questioned on it in depth as a measure of whether they're ready to be commander-in-chief, Cuomo said.

``It's relevant because the next president might feel like starting a war against Iran,'' Cuomo said.

Huckabee, a former Arkansas governor, has come from behind the GOP field to overtake Mitt Romney in Iowa

In recent days, Huckabee's foreign policy credentials have become an issue in the race. Romney has cast him as simply an inexperienced joker on foreign policy matters.

That's in connection with a quip the former Arkansas governor made recently in answer to a question on experience: "I may not be the expert that some people are on foreign policy, but I did stay in a Holiday Inn Express last night."

He added that he had almost given up believing their were people still working at the top with a conscious and enough people at the top willing to let analysts do their job and accept independent analysis.

McGovern also addressed the reasoning he believes is behind the threat of war with Iran. He believes Israel thinks they have a pledge from the White House to deal with Iran before Bush leaves office and relayed the story of the U.S.S. Liberty, which was attacked by the Israelis in 1967 and covered up by the U.S. Thirty-four U.S soldiers were killed and about 170 were seriously injured.

"On June 8, 1967 Israel realized it could literally get away with murder," McGovern said.

Tractor trailers, tank recovery vehicles, crates of machine guns and rocket propelled grenades are just a sampling of more than $1 billion in unaccounted for military equipment and services provided to the Iraqi security forces, according to a new report issued today by the Pentagon Inspector General and obtained exclusively by the CBS News investigative unit. Auditors for the Inspector General reviewed equipment contracts totaling $643 million but could only find an audit trail for $83 million

The report details a massive failure in government procurement revealing little accountability for the billions of dollars spent purchasing military hardware for the Iraqi security forces.

For Egypt, the allure of nuclear power is apparent. Its oil consumption is growing and electricity demand is growing at about 7 percent a year.

"Egypt can absolutely make a legitimate case for nuclear energy," says Mr. Fitzpatrick. "Its reserves are dwindling, it needs the oil and gas for export, and it needs to diversify its energy resources."

Even major oil producers such as Saudi Arabia are, along with Iran, arguing that they need nuclear power. They say it's better to sell their oil than to burn it at home.

My own statement: Unwittingly by not developing renewable energy sources the US, through consumption, is driving the Middle East toward Nuclear proliferation.

The officer who commands U.S. forces in northern Iraq, Maj. Gen. Benjamin Nixon, last week said he planned to do "absolutely nothing" to curb PKK activities.

There were approximately 1,000,000 Christians living in peace under the regime of Saddam Hussein, but now thanks to America’s adventure in bringing democracy to their land, a majority of these people have fled for safety.

Chaldean Catholics, who were the largest Christian denomination, once had 80 churches functioning in Baghdad, today only 8 are still active.

A delegation of Christian bishops representing a cross section of all denominations claimed Bush policies had completely disrupted the lives of Christians in Iraq.

As one told the newspaper, Azzaman, “This democracy this man(George Bush) has brought us is that of tanks, kidnappings, random killings, car bombings, and massive marauding armies who go about their work with impunity.”

It is rather ironic that George Bush, who claims to be a born again Christian, has done more to wipe out Christianity in Iraq than any other figure in the history of that country.

This is another unreported story about Bush’s failures in Iraq.

Foreign Affairs Minister Alexander Downer has ruled out Australian involvement in any United States-led military action in Iran.

Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Seymour Hersh has been writing about the possibility of a US strike on Iran for the past 18 months.

Mr Hersh says US President George W Bush is now focussing on getting support from allies, including Australia.

Mr Downer says he does not believe America is planning to invade Iran, but if the US did pursue that path, Australia would not follow.

"The American position is that they just don't rule in or rule out the military option," he said.

"That's particularly in the context of Iran's nuclear program, which the whole of the international community is concerned about.

"We're not planning to get involved with any military action against anybody."
