She’s said over and over that whoever gets the most [pledged] delegates by June 3rd ought to be the nominee.”

It would be “too bad” and damaging to the party if the battle went to the nomination, he said. The role of super-delegates, he argued, was to swing behind the winner chosen by the voters and not to usurp them.

Clip Source: www.telegraph.co.uk

Former President Jimmy Carter has given Barack Obama a major boost by calling
for the bitter Democratic nomination battle to end on June 3rd and speaking
glowingly of his ability to “transform the image” of America.

Mr Carter did not formally endorse Mr Obama but in an interview with The
Daily Telegraph made crystal clear where his sympathies lie. He even
sketched out the kind of inaugural address the first black United States
 president could deliver.

Jimmy Carter's comments are a blow to Hillary Clinton

"I don’t see any reason at all to continue after June 3rd when we know who
got the most [pledged] delegates, who got the most popular votes, who won
the most states and so forth,” said Mr Carter, 83.

June 3rd is when the final primaries will be held, in South Dakota and Montana

Her advisers believe her only hope of defeating Mr Obama would be to persuade

Early in the conversation Ed asked my preference among the Democratic candidates and I told him I was an Obama supporter.

Then the questions turned to long Hillary-praising and Barack bashing policy statements with the response options being "Do you consider that a very strong, strong or weak or very weak reason to support her candidacy for president?" which is kind of an unanswerable question, and clearly not the point. At the end of the conversation they asked "Now based on everything we've discussed, who would you vote for?"

The questions were often based on statements that I wouldn't agree with in the first place. It's classic push polling as I've read about it, though never experienced it before. The questions are of the "Are you still beating your wife?" variety. No way to answer with any sense of veracity and integrity

Clip Source: www.huffingtonpost.com

North Carolina activist David LaMotte just got a push poll call from the firm of Geoff Garin, the new head of Hillary Clinton's campaign team

It wasn't as bad as asking "would it change your mind if you knew John Kerry actually bought his Vietnam medals off eBay." Ask them when they became disillusioned and they can cite the exact moment.

For Clare Howard, from Southhampton, it was the night when Bill Clinton suggested that Obama did well in the South Carolina primary because of his race.

That went too far, said Howard. "It was like they would do anything to win,"

Joan Schmidt, in Levittown, grew tired of hearing Clinton exaggerate her experience.

Jane Dovel, 68, turned away from Clinton after the New York senator's reaction to Obama's comments that Reagan had been a "transformative political figure."

Clinton fired that Republicans hadn't had better ideas. "I don't think it's a better idea to privatize Social Security," she said. What happened to everybody's income? What ... have ... you ... done ... to ... our ... country?'"

Jason Linkins notes a statement from Harvard political scientist Theda Skocpol to Talking Points Memo, which reads in part:

I have been in meetings with the Clintons and their advisors where very clinical things were said in a very-detached tone about unwillingness of working class voters to trust government -- and Bill Clinton -- and about their unfortunate (from a Clinton perspective) proclivity to vote on life-style rather than economic issues. To see Hillary going absolutely over the top to smash Obama for making clearly more humanly sympathetic observations in this vein, is just amazing.

Clip Source: www.huffingtonpost.com

As the rumination continues over Barack Obama's comments about economically-depressed small town voters, statements made by Bill Clinton on the same topic -- uttered while he was running for president in 1991 -- have now surfaced

The reason (George H. This is a far wider margin of victory than Clinton supporters would like to admit, but decidedly more accurate.

Let's just say, for arguments sake, that we're overestimating how many people a county delegate represents. Let's call it 10 rather than 20. Then the tally becomes 271,720 votes for Obama, and 94,620 for Clinton. A substantial victory. And that is the absolute bottom lowest average estimate

13 caucus states so far in the Primary and Clinton has only won one of them. Obama defeated her in Iowa, Alaska, Idaho, Kansas, Minnesota, Colorado, North Dakota, Nebraska, Washington, Maine, Hawaii and Wyoming.

The tally of county delegates for these states, has Obama at 366,764 and Clinton at 156,563. Multiply these numbers by 10, it puts Obama at 3,667,640 and Clinton at 1,565,630, a margin of 2 million votes.

Applied to the final tally, it puts Obama ahead of Clinton by 2,300,000 vo

Clip Source: www.huffingtonpost.com

Many DNC insiders fear that if Hillary Clinton manages to lose the pledged delegates, she may still take the lead in the popular vote, thereby causing the superdelegates to make a hard decision as to which candidate they should choose come August. Their fears are rooted in the notion that Clinton is only behind by roughly 800,000 votes, and that she could feasibly catch up with a big win in Pennsylvania

They'd be wrong

In fact, Obama leads in the popular vote by anywhere between 2 million to 3 million voters

When voters everywhere were watching the returns of, say, Kansas on Super Tuesday, most of them naturally assumed that Barack Obama won 27,172 votes to Hillary Clinton's 9,462. But those aren't voters they're counting, they're really just more delegates

The county delegates represent an undefined amount of peoples' votes, depending on how many people arrive to the caucus and how many county delegates are assigned. This number could be anywhere from 5 to 100 people and beyond

Clip Source: gabbyattic.com

Tags: behind by all measures, substantially

<clipSource>http://www.huffingtonpost.com/shawn-christensen/dont-be-fooled-obama-is-a_b_96118.html</clipSource>

New Endorsements (Superdelegates) for Obama

clipped by: BobbyRutan
clipper's remarks: Pictured is Senator Klobuchar from Minnesota with the late Senator Wellstone, a true American Hero who might have been running against McCain if not for his untimely death.

Clip Source: online.wsj.com

Slowly but steadily, a string of Democratic Party figures is taking Barack Obama's side in the presidential nominating race and raising the pressure on Hillary Clinton to give up

Sen.
