This camp of sex offenders beneath the Julia Tuttle Causeway made news in February, when the Department of Corrections probation officers arrived and began passing out notices that said the men -- largely barred by local ordinances from living almost anywhere else in Miami-Dade County -- might be charged with trespassing if they stayed under the bridge.

There are 2,050 registered sex offenders and predators in Miami-Dade and another 1,252 in Broward,

A Michigan man wore a T-shirt that said "World's Greatest Dad" when he went to have sex with someone he thought was a 14-year-old girl, officials tell the Detroit Free Press.

Daniel Allen Everett "allegedly engaged in graphic sexual conversation with an undercover agent and propositioned the agent, who was posing as a 14-year-old girl, to meet him for sex," prosecutors say in a statement issued Tuesday. "This afternoon, Everett was arrested in Novi where he is alleged to have appeared to meet the minor for sex. He was arrested wearing a T-shirt with the words, 'Worlds Greatest Dad' on the front, a sad reminder that Internet predators come from all walks of life."

Everett, a 33-year-old who chatted online as "danmichelle2004," was charged yesterday with child sexual abuse and using the Internet to attempt sexual abuse.

Teen bride identifies suspect as 'spiritual' husband

An affidavit says "Sarah," 16, said Dale Evans Barlow, shown in 2005, beat her and forced her to have sex.

The 16-year-old girl whose phone calls led to a raid on a polygamist compound in Texas identified Dale Evans Barlow as the man who she said beat, choked and sexually assaulted her after their "spiritual marriage," according to a court document unsealed Wednesday.

The document said the 16-year-old, whom state officials call Sarah, identified her husband as a 49-year-old named Dale Barlow.

Oklahoma sheriff charged with using inmates as sex slaves

Authorities have charged a western Oklahoma sheriff with coercing and bribing female inmates so he could use them in a sex-slave operation run out of his jail.

Custer County Sheriff Mike Burgess resigned Wednesday just as state prosecutors filed 35 felony charges against him, including 14 counts of second-degree rape, seven counts of forcible oral sodomy and five counts of bribery by a public official.

The lawsuit, filed by 12 former inmates, alleges the sheriff's employees had them engage in wet T-shirt contests and offered cigarettes to those who would flash their breasts.

He could be sentenced to 467 years in prison if convicted on all counts, special prosecutor James Boring said, though a lesser sentence would be more likely.

An Alamogordo High School coach has been arrested on multiple charges of criminal sexual penetration of a minor

James Javier Cruz, 29, was arrested Wednesday on allegations of five counts of having sex with a minor and three counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

DPS was given information Tuesday by the Alamogordo school district that a high school coach may have had a sexual relationship with a member of one of the teams he coached

Cruz is the head girls soccer coach at the high school and also the junior varsity girls basketball coach

Sex and the City' fans are hitting the jackpot

a new tell-all book about the early days of the show may be in stores soon, according to the New York Daily News.

In his manuscript, Streit dishes on a real life affair between two co-stars, tensions on the set, and how he himself once threw up all over Chris Noth's shoes.

Streit also adds why executive producer Darren Star wouldn't cast Ashton Kutcher on the show.

"I don't see this kid going anywhere," Star allegedly told Streit after a meeting.

More gay men describe sex with Larry Craig

The lead story in this morning's Idaho Statesman swings the spotlight back to Sen. Larry Craig, R-Idaho, with claims from five gay men who "say they had sex with Craig or that he made a sexual advance or that he paid them unusual attention."

The story includes accounts from five men, including one who insisted on anonymity because of concerns that "Craig will use his power to retaliate."

Dan Popkey, the reporter who earlier this year showed Craig's photo to men outside a toilet near the capitol, reports that he "found nothing to disprove the five new accounts."

Of course, that doesn't mean the accounts are accurate. "As with the Statesman's August report, the new evidence is not definitive. There are no videos, no love letters, no voice messages. Like last August, they are he-said, he-said allegations about a man seeking discreet sex from partners whom he counted on to never tell," the paper says.

It's been a little more than one year since California voters overwhelmingly approved Proposition 83, known as "Jessica's Law," a measure that strengthens sex offender laws

California's Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation can now evaluate incarcerated sex offenders who fit the profile of a sexually violent predator after one felony sex offense has been committed.

District attorneys now have the ability to file new petitions every two years to demonstrate that the offender still poses a danger to society.

Sexually violent predators are now required to serve their full parole in the event they are released from a mental facility.

Sex offenders who lure minors online for sexual purposes, posses child pornography or administer date-rape drugs face increased penalties.

Law enforcement officers are allowed to act as decoys to engage and capture Internet predators.

To date, 2,000 of the 3,000 paroled sex offenders are wearing global positioning satellite ankle bracelets.

The incidence of gonorrhea, which had declined sharply, has risen in the last two years in this country while the number of chlamydia and syphilis cases continue to rise, federal health officials said yesterday.

Chlamydia and gonorrhea are the two most common diseases among those doctors must report in the United States. And the 1,030,911 cases of chlamydia in 2006 are the highest ever recorded for any nationally reported disease in any year, the officials said in releasing their annual report on sexually transmitted diseases. They said that because of underreporting, a more accurate estimate is 2.8 million new chlamydia cases annually.

SAN FRANCISCO --

registered sex offender was in custody Monday after he was found over the weekend on San Francisco's famed Fisherman's Wharf with a missing 15-year-old Sacramento girl who police believe he met on a telephone party line.

Authorities said the teenager disappeared from her Sacramento home Thursday, touching off a state-wide search following the discovery in her room of the phone number of 31-year-old Anthony Butler, a registered sex offender.

The pair apparently fled Sacramento sometime over the weekend and headed to the Bay Area.

"This is a serious wakeup call for not only my family, but any family," said Philip Watkins, the girl's uncle. "They (parents) need to be really careful with the Internet…There are guys out there pretending to be someone they are not and will destroy a family just like he did mine."

Yet a Web survey was the basis for articles by Reuters, the New York Post and InformationWeek claiming that 28% of Americans have let the Internet cut into time they spend with friends and 20% have cut back on sex to spend more time online. Just 20% of respondents said they could go without Web access for a week or more.

JoAn Karkos was "horrified" by the contents of It's Perfectly Normal: Changing Bodies, Growing Up, Sex & Sexual Health. Instead of burning the books, which she describes as "pornographic," the Maine mother borrowed copies from two local libraries and refused to bring them back.

"Since I have been sufficiently horrified of the illustrations and the sexually graphic, amoral abnormal contents, I will not be returning the books," Karkos wrote in a letter the Lewiston and Auburn public libraries last month, according to the Associated Press. She enclosed a check for the MSRP of the book.

The librarians are threatening to call in the cops. "It is clearly theft," one librarian tells the Sun Journal.
