In what sounds like a really low-budget horror film, voracious swarming ants that apparently arrived in Texas aboard a cargo ship are invading homes and yards across the Houston area, shorting out electrical boxes and messing up computers.

Divers trained in archaeology discovered a marble bust of an aging Caesar in the Rhone River that France's Culture Ministry said Tuesday could be the oldest known.

Two smaller statues, both in bronze and measuring 27.5 inches each also were found, one of them, a satyr with his hands tied behind his back, "doubtless" originated in Hellenic Greece, the ministry said.

“Whether it’s a magnitude of 7.5, 7.6, 7.7 is not nearly as important as the fact that it’s near a population,” David Wald, a seismologist with the U.S. Geological Survey’s National Earthquake Information Center in Golden, Colo.

The magnitude does, however, convey vital information about a quake. It indicates the size of the fault,

it indicates the amount of movement, called slip

These magnitude estimates are more properly called moment magnitude

To make its estimates, USGS relies on its stations and those from other countries that participate in the Global Seismographic Network.

“You could have a 6.8 magnitude earthquake in the wrong place and suffer extreme damage,” Dr. Wald said. “When you have a larger earthquake, though, you increase the odds [of significant damage].”

Two men and a juvenile are accused of digging up a corpse, decapitating the body and using the head to smoke marijuana, according to court documents.

Matthew Gonzalez and Kevin Jones have been charged with the misdemeanor offense of abuse of a corpse

According to documents filed in the case, Gonzalez, Jones and an unnamed juvenile on March 15 went to an Humble cemetery, dug up a man's grave, left with the head and turned it into a "bong."

Gonzalez told authorities about the incident Wednesday, and showed officers the defaced grave, including a 4-foot hole. Because of a heavy rain, officers were unable to determine whether the casket or the body had been disturbed.

The death toll from the Myanmar cyclone could top 100,000, the top US diplomat in the country said Wednesday, as thousands of shell-shocked survivors emerged from the flood waters, desperate for food.

The dramatic warning came as global pressure mounted on Myanmar's ruling generals to open up to foreign aid, with UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon calling it a "critical moment" for one of the world's poorest nations.

UN humanitarian chief John Holmes said the country once known as Burma was facing a "major catastrophe", urging the junta to facilitate the arrival of disaster relief teams and the distribution of badly-needed emergency supplies.

An AFP reporter who reached the town of Labutta in the remote southern Irrawaddy delta hardest hit by Cyclone Nargis, which officially left more than 65,000 dead or missing, said there was virtually no food or fresh water left.

A Wisconsin brewery is tapping into a subculture "it didn't know existed" to promote its Nude Beach Summer Wheat beer, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

Joe Martino, Stevens Point Brewery operating partner, tells the newspaper his company came up with the name during a brainstorming session.

The name drew immediate inquiries from the American Association for Nude Recreation.

Now Martino will provide 25 cases of Nude Beach -- described as a wheat beer with a "full-bodied, yet smooth and creamy" taste -- for the group's convention in Michigan in return for some ads in the group's member publications.

Martino is excited about the exposure but says he won't attend: "I might have attended 20 years ago, when my body was in better shape."

The video shows police cars chasing a gold sedan to a stop in the 3700 block of North Second Street, where about six to eight officers, with guns drawn, swarm over the sedan. As more officers race up to the car, one beats the passenger's side with a baton.

All four doors are pulled open, and as each of the three men is pulled from the car, he is tossed to the street and surrounded by three to five officers. Three or four officers begin trying to handcuff the driver and can be seen delivering at least 13 kicks to his head and sides, as well as several punches.

The passenger pulled from the rear seat is kicked by four officers and struck four or five times by an officer who appears to be wielding a baton. A canine officer stands nearby, restraining an excited police dog.
