Unfortunately, the guy on this thing was in a hurry to get on his way, so we only got a little info, but the pictures here speak for themselves. This home-built thingamajig named "The Devil's Joke" was built as a tribute to Vietnam vets and apparently, total insanity. The power train here is a 2.8 liter Ford V6 sporting an Offenhauser intake and a four-barrel carb.

Caterham Superlight R500 is a beautiful car that costs around £37,000. The car is built on the Series 3 chassis. Into this has gone a revised version of the 2.0 liter Duratec engine which has 263 bhp and revs to 8,500 rpm.
Cosmetically, the car gains the aero-wishbones and nose of the CSR, and the rear lights and indicators are freshened with the addition of clear lenses.
As standard the car comes with an H-pattern 6 speeder, but a 6-cog Quaife sequential box is an option, as is launch control. With both the latter fitted, the car can spin its 13-inch anthracites to 60 in under 3 seconds.

When three motorists encountered a driver traveling recklessly on an Ozaukee County highway this week, they all had the same thought: This guy needs to be stopped.

And stop him is exactly what they did, using their vehicles to box him in at a stoplight.

Police say the driver they boxed in was heavily intoxicated, with a blood-alcohol content four times what the state considers evidence of intoxication.

Podewils said Gil-Flores failed two field sobriety tests - a finger-to-nose test and a heel-to-toe walking test - and that a Breathalyzer test found Gil-Flores had a 0.32 blood-alcohol content.

B.A.T. stands for Berlinetta Aerodinamica Tecnica; berlinetta is an industry term for a sporty coupe, and the cars were exercises in the technology of aerodynamics. The cars combine aerodynamic principles — the chief designer of the original trio, Franco Scaglione, had studied the science — with sheer fantasy. The 1950s B.A.T.’s are viewed as milestones by design historians.

Capt. Clint Roberts makes his living cutting accident victims out of hideously mangled vehicles, but even he could hardly believe it when two people in a 2007 midsize car survived a head-on crash with a full-sized pickup last year.

The Ford Fusion's reinforced steel construction probably saved the lives of the 18-year-old driver and his 16-year-old passenger. But Roberts said it gave his Hillsborough County Fire Rescue crew fits as they tried to free them last November.

Because hydraulic cutters couldn't shear the roof posts, rescue workers had to turn to heavy-duty electric saws, replacing blade after blade as they dulled on the rugged material.

On many 2005 and later cars, an extrication that once took 10 or 15 minutes can now take twice that or longer.

Pressurized gas canisters that inflate air bags can explode if pierced by cutting tools. Rescuers can be blown from cars when air bags suddenly inflate. Hidden battery cables in hybrid cars can deliver a powerful shock.

In the shadow of the Empire State Building lies an “automotive Bermuda Triangle” - a five-block radius where vehicles mysteriously die.

“We get about 10 to 15 cars stuck near there every day,” said Isaac Leviev, manager of Citywide Towing, the AAA’s exclusive roadside assistance provider from 42nd St. to the Battery. “You pull the car four or five blocks to the west or east and the car starts right up.”

Motorists like Russell Valeev, 25, learn about it the hard way.

“The lights work, the horn works, everything. But it won’t start,” Valeev, a driver for Golden Touch Transportation said one recent evening as he sat in his 2005 Ford van with the hood propped open on E. 35th St., between Lexington and Park Aves. “It’s my job. No money.”

“I’ve seen a lot of cars get towed away,” said a doorman at 35 E. 35th St. who gave only his first name, Joseph. “I see it all the time, at least 10 times a week ... I call it the ‘Empire State Building Effect.’”
