The most senior judge in England and Wales has said that aspects of Islamic sharia law could be used in the UK, provided they don't conflict with existing laws. I say that Islamic sharia law should not be used in the United Kingdom and the Prime Minister should do everything within his power to stop it being introduced.

Muslim woman too submissive for French citizenship

PARIS -- France has denied citizenship to a veiled Moroccan woman on the grounds that her "radical" practice of Islam is incompatible with basic French values such as equality of the sexes, a legal ruling showed on Friday.

The case will reignite debate about how to reconcile freedom of religion, which is guaranteed by the French constitution, and other fundamental rights, which many in France feel are being challenged by the way of life of some Muslims.

Le Monde newspaper said it was the first time a Muslim applicant had been rejected for reasons to do with personal religious practice.

"She has adopted a radical practice of her religion, incompatible with essential values of the French community, particularly the principle of equality of the sexes," said a ruling by the Council of State handed down last month and sent to Reuters on Friday to confirm a report in Le Monde.

Abu Hamza's Muslim lawyer earns £1m a year in legal aid from representing terror suspects

A solicitor who specialises in representing terror suspects and tells them not to cooperate with police was paid almost £1 million in legal aid last year.

Muddassar Arani's firm represented Abu Hamza, dirty bomb plotter Dhirin Barot and three of the 21/7 bombers in recent years.

She has raked in £3.5 million in taxpayer-funded support to help defend extremist suspects in recent years, according to new figures.

In the seven years documented in figures released under the Freedom of Information Act payments from the Legal Services Commission have almost quadrupled.

In one month alone - May last year - the firm billed almost £400,000 for legal services.

The 44-year-old mum of two once boasted in a magazine that those accused of terrorism come to her first.

Felix Fritzl is making an amazing recovery

Cellar boy Felix Fritzl is making an amazing recovery - aided by the daily miracle of the breaking dawn.

The five-year-old who spent his entire life caged underground by his father and grandfather Josef Fritzl has stopped communicating by grunts and is walking normally.

A source said: "The grunts and growls it was suggested he and his brother Stefan used appear only to have been the excitement of their release."

Felix is also entrancing doctors with his ready wit and enthusiasm for everything new in his transformed life.

But the most heart-warming feature of his freedom is something the rest of the world takes for granted. Before he was released from his windowless dungeon beneath Fritzl's house in Amstetten, Austria, two weeks ago Felix had never seen daylight.

What they have discovered to their own great surprise is that in the United States, and right across the South too, there are an enormous number of people who also think this way. When Hitchens took his book across the Bible Belt and debated with Baptist ministers in churches, there were huge audiences, most of whom, it seems, from when they spoke to him afterwards, were somewhat irritated that the place in the United States that they lived in was called the Bible Belt. I think there was something there that people had not taken into account. Quite heartening really, given that America is meant to be a secular republic with a strong tradition of upholding all freedom of thought.

A Sligo man became an amateur scientist in his desperate search for a cure for the skin condition which was slowly destroying his life.

For years, David Duncan lived as a recluse because of the psoriasis which covered 85pc of his body. After trying countless skin specialists, prescriptions and quack cures, the 36-year-old is convinced he has now come up with his own effective treatment.

Two million dollars per year might seem like an outrageous sum to spend so that one woman can safely stand at a university lectern and speak about the power of reason and the rights of little girls—and it is an outrageous sum and an outrageous circumstance. Whether covered by public funds (as it would be if the U.S. granted Ms. Hirsi Ali diplomatic protection) or by private donations, the expense of protecting Ayaan Hirsi Ali is not a luxury. It is a cost imposed upon our society by religious lunatics and their apologists. It is, of course, galling that a mere advocate of human rights and basic rationality should require special protection in the United States. But this is simply a fact of life in a world where freedom of speech and conscience falls ever more under the shadow of Muslim fanaticism. In my opinion, there is no one making a more heroic effort to change this fact than Ayaan Hirsi Ali.
