A bizarre Government-funded campaign is being launched to encourage people to exercise while they’re waiting for a bus.

According to the campaign’s organisers, those minutes spent at the bus stop watching the traffic go by could be spent more usefully – by standing on one leg, pointing your toes or clenching your buttocks.

But the latest attempt to get Britain fit has been slammed by an MP as ‘a shocking waste of taxpayers’ money’.

And one angry passenger said last night: ‘Fares are ridiculously high as it is. So why don’t they use the money they’re spending on this nonsense to cut the cost of bus travel?’

Leaflets and posters setting out six Pilates-style exercise moves to do at the bus stop are being distributed to passengers travelling on buses between Blackburn and Manchester.

Organisers claim it will help people with busy lives to fit exercise into their day and avoid health problems such as heart disease and obesity.

PHNOM PENH, Cambodia (CNN) -- Walking down a street in Cambodia's capital city, Phymean Noun finished her lunch and tossed her chicken bones into the trash. Seconds later, she watched in horror as several children fought to reclaim her discarded food.

The Deuels moved to an apartment in Alliance a little more than a year ago so Edie could take a job as a school counselor. Her contract wasn’t renewed at the end of the school year, and she remains out of work.

Patrick also is unemployed. He said he’s been going through vocational rehabilitation to determine the type of work that would best suit him. The former restaurant manager said he definitely won’t work in food service again. There’s too much temptation, he said.

The couple’s only income is Patrick’s monthly Social Security check of less than $600.

Patrick also has had to deal with the recent deaths of his grandmother, with whom he was very close, and of a longtime family friend.

This book, and similar ones from your conservative colleagues Bill O’Reilly and Michael Savage, was found in the home of a man who read those words, internalized those words, and then loaded his shotgun. He took 76 rounds of ammunition with him to a place of worship—a place where he knew he could do his job to stop and defeat some liberals. At the Unitarian Church in Knoxville, Tennessee, Jim Adkisson, a fan of yours, killed two people, wounded five others, and left an entire congregation and country shaken by his actions.

The scope of the crisis prompted the foundation to establish the Iraqi Goodwill Fund. To date, it has raised more than $1 million and helped dozens of patients, but the need for such care far surpasses what the fund can do.

AMMAN, Jordan (CNN) -- Two-year-old Safa'a gently holds his mother's hand, a 12-pound tumor bulging from his frail body. The tumor is so large it's nearly as big as he is.

His mother, Manal, cradles her son's hand as she trembles inside the King Hussein Cancer Center. His father, Mohammed, struggles with his words.

About 6,000 miles away, in Boston, Massachusetts, Safa'a came to the attention of Ray Tye. A liquor distributor and philanthropist, Tye and his wife, Eileen, run the Ray Tye Medical Aid Foundation. Their motto: "We will never stop caring."

With the help of their friends, the couple formed the foundation five years ago after their son died of multiple myeloma, a cancer of the plasma cell that is incurable.

"You know, he is my first baby," Mohammed told CNN from his modest Baghdad home at the time. "I used everything I have to rescue my baby. I tried to do something, but I can't."

Ill and in Pain, Detainee Dies in U.S. Hands

Hiu Lui Ng was a New Yorker: a computer engineer with a job in the Empire State Building, a house in Queens, a wife who is a United States citizen and two American-born sons.

But when Mr. Ng, who had overstayed a visa years earlier, went to immigration headquarters in Manhattan last summer for his final interview for a green card, he was swept into immigration detention and shuttled through jails and detention centers in three New England states.

In April, Mr. Ng began complaining of excruciating back pain. By mid-July, he could no longer walk or stand. And last Wednesday, two days after his 34th birthday, he died in the custody of Immigration and Customs Enforcement in a Rhode Island hospital, his spine fractured and his body riddled with cancer that had gone undiagnosed and untreated for months.
