It can act as an input to a number of (free, open source) applications, some especially created for sampling and sequencing, or can control midi applications. There are Java libraries and everything. I own one, and can't get enough of it.

Clip Source: monome.org

the monome 40h is a reconfigurable grid of sixty-four backlit buttons. see the demonstration video. or this one. or this one.

mods

we've assembled a short video demonstrating some simple hardware modifications (see the walkthrough). in the spirit of modification, we've decided to sell a few logic boards for custom projects. contact us to get one.

ahead

new applications are being posted! as always, they're free, open source, and modification is encouraged.

mlr has reached version 2.0 at last. new features include live input sampling and hands-on control using the 40h. see screenshots and download here.

64step is a versatile sequencer/sampler designed for tight integration with the 40h. see more here.

Tags: music, hardware, opensource, controller, usb

<clipSource>http://monome.org/</clipSource>

Reaper - application for multitrack audio recording and editing

clipped by: Algernon
clipper's remarks: From Justin Frankel (the maker of Winamp, Jesusonic and Ninjam) comes a powerful Windows app for multitrack recording and editing. I recently spotted this in the Beeb online. These types of articles are becoming more common; I can't imagine it's too long before the novelty wears off and they become ubiquitously meshed yet valuable, like what Steve Jobs thinks of Levi jeans.

From an insider perspective (I work for Linden Lab), I should note how dapper Roo aka Algernon looks, and how unique his head is shaped: you'll often not find prominent eyebrows like that in Second Life, especially paired with big blue eyes and a teardrop-shaped head not unlike that of a classic Gray alien. Lots of room for avatar customization, that's for sure.

Clip Source: news.bbc.co.uk

"Metaverse Evangelist" is not a title you expect to see on a business card, let alone one from an employee of a century-old technology company.

But then Roo Reynolds of IBM is not a normal employee.

Living a double life, one as a twenty-something software engineer and the other as an online four-foot alien, Mr Reynolds flits between dusty wood-panelled meeting rooms and anything-goes virtual worlds like Second Life and Entropia Universe.

His job since March 2006 has been to preach the gospel of the online 3D universe to IBM executives and the company's clients.

Tags: secondlife, second life, bbc, roo reynolds, ibm, metaverse evangelist

<clipSource>http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/technology/6111738.stm</clipSource>
