Pastor's Review of Iron Man:

The first thing you have to understand about the movie, "Iron Man," is that it is based on a super hero comic book series. For those of you who are not aware, super hero comic books are cartoon-style magazines read by effeminate young boys who don't play sports. I'm going to put it bluntly - and ladies, close your ears now, or ask your husband later - comic book readers are given toward a lifestyle of masturbation directed toward men wearing leotards. Thankfully, in a civilized society, these little perverts are not able to fulfill their disgusting fantasies in our school gymnasiums unless, of course, they are attending school in England, where boys learn to prance about like homosexuals in the first grade! In God's Country, America, if a sissy hankers toward a mastrabatorial fantasy in the school gym, God willing, there will be a True Christian™ jock, on hand to beat the devil out of them.

If religion isn't the greatest threat to rationality and scientific progress, what is? Perhaps alcohol, or television, or addictive video games.

People are revered for their capacity to live in a dream world, to shield their minds from factual knowledge and make the major decisions of their lives by consulting voices in their heads that they call forth by rituals designed to intoxicate them.

"You cannot lose by professing belief in God - if He does not exist you lose nothing, and if He does exist, you will be rewarded in the afterlife." Dennett argues that it is better to live as if there is no God, attempting to make the world a rational and better place.

The debate on religion versus science will take place tonight at the British Council.

Anyone who has read the Bible and believes every word will agree that worrying about our environment and trying to conserve energy (among other things) is an act of defiance against the Living God. Friends, the Lord will take care of everything. God made the Earth and the Heavens and if He wants to destroy it all, He will! In fact, one of the things that makes folks True Christians™ in the first place is that we are PRAYING for the destruction of this planet. You see, God actually wants us to use up all the resources, because when everything is gone, it will signal the return of sweet Jesus to come kill all the Muslims, Catholics, Mormons, Hindus and Tree-Hugger-know-it-alls.

The sissy Christians who pick and choose whatever Bible verse they like to fit their latest agenda will burn in Hell and give off just as pleasing a scent to the nostrils of the Lord as any hell bound, America hating Muslim will.

Iraqi Chaldean archbishop seized

Gunmen have kidnapped the archbishop of the Chaldean Catholic Church in the northern Iraqi city of Mosul and killed three of his aides, his church says.

Most of Iraq's estimated 700,000 Christians are Chaldeans - Catholics who are autonomous from Rome but recognise the Pope's authority.

Many have been targeted since the 2004 invasion by Sunni extremists groups.

In January, bombs exploded outside three Chaldean and Assyrian churches in Mosul. Several Christian priests have also been kidnapped or killed during the past five years.

Archbishop Rahho had just left the Church of the Holy Spirit in Mosul, where he had been leading afternoon prayers, when his car was ambushed by armed men, a church spokesman said.

The gunmen opened fire on the car, killing his two companions and driver, before kidnapping the archbishop, he added.

"It's a terrible time for our church - pray for us," he added.

Is the word of god "subject to" the culture of the times? Or do we change the interpretation of god's word to fit our sensibilities at the time?

Perhaps we create god's word as we go. Certainly our interpretation does.

To believe that God can both love the world and yet bring floods, earthquakes and other forms of suffering to that world as punishment for sin, is tantamount to believing that the abusive husband loves his wife, even as he pushes her down the stairs.

I received one of these mass e-mails a few months ago--a pedantic diatribe about Hurricane Katrina, and how God had sent the Hurricane because he was "removing his protection" from America

Aside from being irrational, the claim (which supposedly originated with no less a conduit to the Creator than Billy Graham's daughter) casts a huge pall over the basic decency of God, seeing as how the people who suffered most in Katrina were poor black folks: some of the most church-going, Bible believing people in this country. First of all, I'd like to say there are many good Christian men who treat their wives kindly and as equals, and this clip does not speak to them, rather the abuser who uses his abuse and control of women in his mind by religious justification.

Rinck tells us how to recognize these men, suggests how to deal with these men, and tells us that we women are fully human and that no one, man or woman, has God's blessing to treat us as any less than fully human.

The man assumes he has the "God-given" right to control how she lives and behaves. Her needs or thoughts are not even considered.

He acts charming and sweet at church and is well-liked at work, yet at home the family has to "walk on eggs" to prevent setting him off.

He may even try to restrict her normal church activities because "a woman's place is in the home." If other people, especially other men, notice her or talk to her, he becomes very angry or jealous.

When anything goes wrong in the home or in their relationship, the problem is always her. If she would just be "more submissive" or "more filled with the spirit" or "obey me like a good Christian wife," everything would be fine
