Christianity neither is, nor ever was a part of the common
 law.

-Thomas Jefferson, letter to Dr. Thomas Cooper, February 10,
 1814

What is it men cannot be made to believe!

-Thomas Jefferson to Richard Henry Lee, April 22, 1786. (on
the British regarding America, but quoted here for its universal
 appeal.)

In every country and in every age, the priest has been hostile
to liberty. He is always in alliance with the despot, abetting
his abuses in return for protection to his own.

-Thomas Jefferson, letter to Horatio G. Spafford, March 17,
 1814

Man once surrendering his reason, has no remaining guard against
absurdities the most monstrous, and like a ship without rudder,
is the sport of every wind.

-Thomas Jefferson to James Smith, 1822.

And the day will come when the mystical generation of Jesus,
by the supreme being as his father in the womb of a virgin will
be classed with the fable of the generation of Minerve in the
 brain of Jupiter.

-Thomas Jefferson, Letter to John Adams, April 11, 1823

Tags: religion, thomas jefferson, politics, atheism, freethought, agnostic, founding father, god, christianity, bible

<clipSource>http://www.nobeliefs.com/jefferson.htm</clipSource>

Quotations by Abraham Lincoln

clipped by: AcesLucky
clipper's remarks: ""In religion, Mr. Lincoln was about of the same opinion as Bob Ingersoll, and there is no account of his ever having changed. He went to church a few times with his family while he was President, but so far as I have been able to find out, he remained an unbeliever. Yes I am.

He's not saying much more than I did before: Jeremiah Wright's "Christianity" isn't really Christianity, it's Farrakhan's Nation of Islam with the serial numbers filed off and "Mohammad" swapped out for "Jesus."

But he's a liberal, so he's allowed to say it. And there's actually a chance someone in the media might consider that obvious point worth pursuing.

And, Oh: Jim Geraghty on liberals, whom are irony-proofed right at the factory at no extra charge. Regarding Obama's denigration of small-town Americans as only "clinging" to religion due to frustration:

Boy, I'd hate for people to get bitter, and to cling to antipathy to people who aren't like them because of, say, a religious leader... You know, somebody preaching hate from the pulpit or something like that. Good thing Barack Obama is always on top of circumstances like that, and would never stand for that...

Tags: obama, wright, christianity, islam, muslim, religion, politics

<clipSource>http://minx.cc/?post=259997</clipSource>

Child Homicide: When Prayer Fails

clipped by: AcesLucky
clipper's remarks: Podcast with Shawn Peters, author of "When Prayer Fails: Faith Healing, Children and the Law"

Also, Susan Jacoby, author of "The Age of American Unreason".

And a host of others. The unnecessary, tragic deaths of two children last month whose respective parents let them die of preventable diseases in the name of faith will be discussed with Shawn Francis Peters, author of When Prayer Fails: Faith Healing, Children and the Law. Dan Barker's "Pagan Pulpit" exposes the biblical admonitions to rely on faith to heal. Also featured: clips from "Fitna," the controversial Internet movie about Islam by Dutch parliament member Geert Wilders, an update on a Congressional probe of prosperity preachers, and a recording of Tom Lehrer, born April 8, singing his classic "Vatican Rag."

Many religious theists cite Einstein as an example of a smart scientist who was also a religious theist like them. This supposedly rebuts the idea that science conflicts with religion or that science is atheistic. However, Albert Einstein consistently and unambiguously denied believing in personal gods who answered prayers or involved themselves in human affairs - exactly the sort of god common to religious theists claiming that Einstein was one of them.

Clip Source: atheism.about.com

Albert Einstein Quotes on a Personal God: Einstein Denied Personal Gods, Prayer

Albert Einstein Regarded Belief in Personal Gods as Fantasy, Childish

2. - Albert Einstein, Science and Religion (1941)

1. Albert Einstein & Spinoza's God: Harmony in the Universe

I believe in Spinoza's God who reveals himself in the orderly harmony of what exists, not in a God who concerns himself with the fates and actions of human beings.

The whole thing is so patently infantile, so foreign to reality, that to anyone with a friendly attitude to humanity it is painful to think that the great majority of mortals will never be able to rise above this view of life. — Sigmund Freud

2. That means that everything in it, planets, stars, moons, comets, and even light itself, must have originated at the time (or after) the Great Creation. Consider that no energy or matter in the universe can travel faster than the speed of light. If you take the speed-of-light back in time 6000 years to the point of the alleged Creation, you get a spherical radius of only around 6000 light-years. This means that a 12,000 diameter light-year bubble represents everything that could possibly happen or exist within the time range of Christian chronology.

Consider that the entire Christian universe cannot measure larger than a single average galaxy in the known universe! The miniscule Christian universe would sit as a tiny dwarf within single galaxy such as the Andromeda galaxy (shown above).

Tags: atheism, bible, christian, christianity, god, religion, atronomy

<clipSource>http://www.nobeliefs.com/comments11.htm</clipSource>
