CHICAGO (Reuters) - Johnson & Johnson, Wyeth and other makers of infants' nonprescription cough and cold products are recalling certain medicines in the United States because of the danger of overdose, the Consumer Healthcare Products Association said on Thursday.

Novartis and Prestige Brands Holdings are recalling their oral infant cough and cold medicines, as well, because data show that when the medicines are misused, it can lead to overdose, especially in children under 2 years old.

At least three chain stores said they are pulling over-the counter infant cold and cough medicines from their shelves: CVS Pharmacy, the retail unit of CVS Caremark Corp, Stop & Shop Supermarket Co LLC and Giant Food LLC.

U.S. Food and Drug Administration reviewers have said that from 1969 through 2006 the agency received 54 reports of deaths with decongestants and 69 with antihistamines. Most were in children younger than 2. Overdose and drug toxicity were commonly reported in those cases, they said.

The nation's first baby boomer applied for Social Security benefits Monday, signaling the start of an expected avalanche of applications from the post World War II war generation.

Kathleen Casey-Kirschling, a former teacher from New Jersey, applied for benefits over the Internet at an event attended by Social Security Commissioner Michael Astrue. Casey-Kirschling, who now lives in Maryland, was born one second after midnight on Jan. 1, 1946, making her the first baby boomer, a generation of nearly 80 million born from 1946 to 1964, Astrue said.

An estimated 10,000 people a day will become eligible for Social Security benefits over the next two decades, Astrue said.

Zell has said he will sell the Cubs to help pay down the debt and lower the crushing interest burden. Analysts have said the club could fetch $600 million or more, according to the Associated Press, a price that seems low to me.

The greater the Cubs’s success, therefore, the higher the price the club fetches in a sale, creating a virtuous cycle of financial success and American progress.

Well, I don’t care how they do it The Cubs must. Win. The Pennant. Then they must. Win. The Series.

Only one question remains: Why cannot the Brewers, Mets, Phillies, Dodgers, Padres, Yankees, Red Sox and Indians emulate the patriotic Cardinals, and choke, like the human-growth-hormone-enhanced, androstenedione-taking, red-wearing, uptight Tony LaRussa-esque club they are?

Why do these clubs, and all of their fans, hate journalism? Why do they hate American freedom?

Stockholm, Sweden - The Nasdaq Stock Market is selling a nearly 20 percent stake to Borse Dubai and is taking control of the Nordic exchange operator OMX as part of a sweeping settlement of their battle for control of OMX.

In a global stock market shakeup, Borse Dubai and a group from Qatar also moved to become the largest stakeholders in the London Stock Exchange.

But the transactions involving Dubai and Nasdaq could face scrutiny in the United States, where a Dubai-owned company’s plan to manage some U.S. ports previously raised an uproar.

Dead man waking: Venezuelan comes to during autopsy

From Reuters, purveyors of premier strange news, comes the Twilight Zone story of Carlos Camejo, who woke up — painfully — on a morgue slab in La Victoria, Venezuela, after being declared dead in a road wreck.

Medical examiners began the autopsy with an incision to Camejo's face, but realized something was wrong because the dead don't bleed. They quickly stitched up the gash.

"I woke up because the pain was unbearable," said the 33-year-old Camejo, whose tale appeared Friday in El Universal newspaper, along with a photo of Camejo holding the autopsy order.

Reuters wrote today that it could not immediately reach hospital officials to confirm the events.
