Liberace Sticky Buns

The only change I've made is in my choice of raisin, and that is only because I didn't feel like hunting for little boxes of white raisins (a dried fruit more popular in the 1970's that it is today). A friend assured me that red flame raisins seemed much more appropriate to use in this recipe

Ingredients:

1 cup white raisins (or, of course, flame)
1/2 cup light rum
1 1/2 cups brown sugar
1/2 pound (two sticks) unsalted butter
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon each of ground nutmeg, allspice, cloves, and ginger

3 packages (18 buns) Pillsbury crescent dough.

Soak the raisins in the rum over a low flame. Set aside. Preheat oven to 325 F. In a saucepan, melt butter and stir in the spices and the brown sugar until the mixture becomes a bubbling syrup.

Grease two eight-muffin pans or three six-muffin pans with butter. Put a scant teaspoon of the reserved syrup and a few whole pecans in the bottom of each muffin mold.

Michael Procopio received Liberace's cookbook as a gag gift from friends but ended up actually liking it so much that he made sticky buns from his recipe: "It's still pretty amusing (you should see the photos of him with starlets mooning and drooling over his, um, cooking)

Liberace, not exactly known for his restraint, had seven dining areas in his house, each with a different theme—I wonder if he served his sticky buns in all of them?

The Liberace Museum sells copies of his 1970 cookbook Liberace Cooks from their website for $12.95, but for more fun you should probably buy Karan & Michael Feder's recently published cookbook Joy of Liberace, which goes for $16.50 on Amazon, and includes 80 recipes Liberace actually served on his tv show like Chicken à La King of Bling!, Flamboyant Flambé of Sirloin, Fruit, Fruitier, Fruitiest Salad plus lots of personal photos. The Feders were on NPR's All Things Considered just this Saturday to talk about the book, if you'd like to find out more.

Absinthe: The American Remix

Lucid is the debut product from Viridian Spirits of Manhasset, N.Y., founded in early 2006. According to Jared Gurfein, Viridian’s president, the company’s first order of business was to contact Ted Breaux, a chemist known for his detailed analyses of vintage absinthes.

Mr. Gurfein asked Mr. Breaux whether he could produce an absinthe that would pass regulatory muster with American authorities — meaning that it would not contain thujone. Mr. Breaux said that would be fairly easy, given his belief that, contrary to popular opinion, 19th century absinthes contained relatively little thujone to begin with — less than 5 parts per million, according to his tests, rather than much higher estimates that have been bandied about.

Catapult boy is eaten after taunting crocodile in pen

A schoolboy who climbed over a fence into a crocodile enclosure and taunted the animals with sticks and a catapult was dragged into the water and eaten.

The nine-year-old, whose family name was given as Liu, and three friends sneaked into the crocodile park at the Silver Beach holiday resort at Beihai in the southwestern Guangxi region on Friday.

The children shot at the animals with catapults and beat them with sticks.

The official Xinhua news agency said: “One of the irritated crocodiles bit Liu’s clothes and dragged him into the water where he was eaten by a swarm of crocodiles.” His companions then raised the alarm.

nvestigators searched for the missing boy and decided to check inside the crocodiles. Snipers used pork to lure them out of their pool and shot dead the first animal to lumber on to the bank.

Inside it they found human remains that were confirmed to be those of the boy.

clipper's remarks: This is one such posting about recent studies that highlight the hypocrisy of our various world governments & the attitude of people regarding drugs. If we tolerate smoking & drinking then individuals should have the right to get high or drop a tab or experience euphoria from EX in the same manner. According to this study, it is not only less harmful to the individual, but also has fewer ill social effects.

The real issue is that too many people in this world are hypocrites that subscribe to the belief in circular logic. Drugs are illegal, so they are bad. Because drugs are bad, they ought to be illegal.

People need to mind their own god damn business and not worry about what others do tjust to ease their own conscience and make themselves feel morally superior.

Specifically, lets let doctors prescribe cannabis to cancer & aids patients to help ease the pain, side effects of treatment & to give them an appetite.
